I have been working on an NGC PCGS US Coin Type Set for some time. I have over 85 slabs and now I'm to the expensive coins and was thinking of adding ANACS to my collection.
What is the difference between the blue and yellow slabs?
And somebody, please tell me either to be patient and stick with NGC and PCGS or that ANACS will be OK.

This may help:
From their website - On January 1, 2008 ANACS, under its new ownership, relocated from Austin, Texas to suburban Denver. Coins that were certified by ANACS under previous ownership will be reholdered in ANACS's blue label. Coins that were certified since January 1, 2008 under the new ownership, will be reholdered using ANACS's gold label

I like ANACS. Their grading seems fairly consistent and the holders have received a much needed makeover. It's ultimately up to you :-)

The gold label coins are as reputable as any in PCGS or NGC slabs. They have tightened the screws in my opinion (a bit too tight actually). I have high confidence in that gold label.

The ANACS blue labels began in Feb 2005 with their new curverd bottom slabs. These come in three varieties. After the fake small white ANACS slabs for problem coins were discovered to be being faked ANACS began putting all coins, both problem and problem free in their blue labeled holders in July 2007. The first week of Sept 2007 the new blue label square bottom holders were introduced. In Dec 2007 ANACS was purchased by James Taylor and in Jan 2008 it was moved to Colorado. I'm not sure when the Yellow label was introduced (ANACS 25) but I believe it was mid 2008. I know they were in use by late 2008.

Remember to buy the coin... not the holder. I know a lot of folks that own "expensive" plastic.

ANACS is good.
NGC is Better
PCGS is the Best.
However 99.9% it all depends on the Coin of course.
When you have slab holders in your collection, you might as well place slabs adjacent to each other bearing the same type because of the difference in their sizes.
The yellow slabs of ANACS are the most recent new style.

Old thread but I have to chime in...

I have sent more PCGS 70 graded coins back to their previous owners because the coins were obviously NOT grade 70. Scratches, coin dings, terrible mint frosting...
I have seen several NGC holdered coins that were scratched yet the labels didn't mention this fact...
I have lots of ANACS holdered coins and haven't seen one yet where the grading was really wrong.
I've read stories about fake slabs of all three companies but have yet to see one.
I have seen all three companies slabs with errors on their labels...some from all three were huge oversights. One PCGS I owned, I submitted it too, had the wrong coin listed on the label.
ANACS certifies all errors for a reasonable price...all VAM's too.
NGC...Because I use PCGS and ANACS, I have never submitted a coin to them but I own quite a few NGC certified coins.
TPG all make mistakes...all of them.
There is no hierarchy of good, better, best from these three companies, IMHO.
One thing is: the collectors pay the premiums for PCGS but compare slab fees...$24 for a VAM designation, $20 for economy grading...$55 for error attribution...come on...in lots of instances, that's the difference in premiums.
Use what you like and learn how to submit...there are ways to save money and lastly...

Buy the coin, Never Buy the slab

ANACS also has had some clear type holders similar to the ICG ones, I've seen primarily modern stuff in them, probably sold through Home Shopping Network.

Those have been around since 2007, and you are right they have only been used for promotional items like the TV people do.

Yes, you should definately do a collection of type with ANACS slabs. That would be fun. I prefer raw to slab because I learned to grade circulated But the grading game is fun seeing all the subjectivity between MS 61 and 62 or MS 65 and MS 66. James Taylor of ANACS used to help run ICG before he made the change. He is a wonderful asset to our community
