Hey all,
My first post on the forum
Just wondering if anyone could help with grading and info on this coin? Seems in pretty good condition compared to others I have seen, though I'm no expert!

First off:

The pics are a bit blurry, but my gut is telling me VF-35. I'd give it an XF if the reverse eagle detail was stronger.

Welcome to CCF
I would venture a solid Fine 15 from what I can see.

Thanks guys,

Yea sorry about the pictures, best I could do for the time being!
Some things that dont seem to come across in the pictures:
Liberty is quite clearly visible in my opinion and "in god we trust" is partially legible.
Are these common coins at all?

Cheers!

The mintage figure for the 1877-S is 8,996,000. That's a lot compared to the rest of the series (1838-1891) but the series is scarce as a whole. This coin would fetch anywhere between $50~$80 based on condition. The reason Liberty shows more prominently than In God We Trust is that "Liberty" is incuse and the motto on the reverse is raised. The higher points wear first. Nice coin.

Thanks SeatedNut!
Still makes me wonder how it got into my hands, I must have had it about 6 years now in a collection of coins that were given to me. Must have made the trip across the pond to the UK quite some years ago as I imagine the person I took over from had them a long time.

VF25, maybe 30. Good rims and drapery detail; a little too much wear on the back to warrant an XF.

I originally said that VF is far too high for the amount of wear on the reverse, but upon a second look I would have to concur with VF. A solid VF-20 is what I would give this coin.
