Quote: Are you a sportsman Dave? In particularly, a fisherman? Yes Lou ... fish, hunt, golf, ride. I actually prefer the outdoors to this computer. With the snags I've made lately (this one, two 78-S VAM 77's, and another 8TF VAM 9) it's getting hard to strike a balance. I must sadly say the last time I serously fished was a trip to Alaska three years ago.

I was just wondering if sometimes you might get confused between vamming and fishing.
Whether hit the buy it now button, or to catch and release.
Maybe to decide if it will holder, or to snag 'em, and bring 'em home and clean 'em,

I already know where you caught the 123, but if you get confused and decide to release it instead of cleaning it, let me know where you will do it.

No need to thank me because as I said my current financial situation prevented me from bidding. I am just glad I didn't come here and post links to it though like I used to do when I wasn't going to buy a specific coin so just in case someone may be interested in a VAM of that variety. I have tried to refrain from doing that because I know of allot of you guys that do search ebay just like I do and I don't want to be responsible for a bidding war between two forum members

Remmy, to the best of my knowledge, I have caught a total of four fish, a steelhead salmon in Alaska, a dogfish off Puget Sound in Washington, (that's Worschington for you midwesterners), a catfish in the Mississippi near Memphis, and a grouper in Florida, so I guess you could call me a coast to coast fisherperson also (although I hate fishing).
Speaking of mega rare vams though, I was reading a current advertisement of L&C Coins in which they have in their inventory a coin that they list as:
78-P... 8TF... VAM-17... EXTREME CONCAVE... MS-63... $300.
Now, while 300 bucks may seem rather steep for a run of the mill vam-17, I think that $300 would be a steal for an extreme concave one, don't you?

That's really interesting, as VAM 17 is not known to be a concave coin...It Must be a real steal! for somebody(the seller)lol

The way I figure it is that this was probably the first coin struck (when the die faces were still big and puffy). After striking this coin, the dies probably collapsed (kinda like a cake might when removed from the oven), and were only able to strike normal coins afterward.

I like VAM's, Not because I can go for the Registry thing.. But rather The challenge of collecting the unknown, and having the knowledge to NOT collect the average known S#$^%^&...That takes some time but is not all that hard. For some years there is now an intense studies such as the ongoing 1904-0..A putting of things in there proper order so to speak, so the game may seem to change but really known listings will be set straight as far as we can find at this time and date..for many years of few dies listed there is yet studies to be done. with what we do know..The game is on, and when you find things that are not known, you learn to research and search out resources and people who can help you know if you have found something new....I seek not the Holy Grail, nor seek VAM's for the money...But am rewarded in helping others attribute there coins as well as develop my own knowledge. it is enough.

I don't.....but I do very much like the people. I am getting addicted to you guys. I go play tennis for a couple of hours, gotta run back in and see if anyone has said anything new (or silly, hopefully), I go for a ride, can't wait to get home to check in with this forum. It certainly fills in the gaps in my day, so I stay pretty busy doing nothing really. You guys make it all worth while for me. I don't need the coins, I just need you.

just a wild guess...but a converse coin...would be over ground, polished or what have you......metal is missing from the die near the rim surfaces in order for them to be "bowllike" in reflection, as other few known concave coins show...If MS63 was true this would be FABULOUS yet VAM 17 is known as a common coin.....this would be !!WOW one of a kind!! how ever the pics, show no sign of concave...I have to hate ebay false advertisements...
