I just received a U.S. Mint Jefferson nickels (1938-) album in the mail, and was disappointed to see that it included slots for all the S-mint proof coins since 1971, since I wanted the album for collecting coins from circulation. Before I try to talk Wizard into an exchange, I am hoping for some input on which coin albums (not folders) that you like and what some of the differences are. Specifically, which albums have proof-only slots? I know that Dansco has one model with and one without, but I can't find that info online for some of the other makes and models like Whitman or Littleton. Thanks everyone in advance for your help!

I grabbed 5 Dansco's recently to start up my circulation coin hunting collection. Probably spent a little more on albums than I thought I would but after some research I liked them the best and I figure it'll take a long long time to search thru boxes of circulated coins to fill these as best we can so the cost of the albums if offset by the use my son and me will get out of them searching together. All albums are non proof slot ones, if and when I get proofs I'll be keeping them in the US Mint cases most likely. DANSCO Lincoln Cents 1909 to 2021 Album #7100 DANSCO Roosevelt dime Album #7125 DANSCO Jefferson nickels Album #7113 Dansco Album 7140 Washington quarters 1932-1998 Dansco Album 7143 Statehood Quarters 1999-2008 Dansco Supplemental Pages For Album # 7143 Page 6 (territories)

If you look in my signature area you can see I have links to my albums, At the time I was only using Dansco but have since switched my Lincoln cents to a method Badthad suggested seen here: https://goccf.com/t/60273#472128

Danscos are the only albums I use. I have a couple of whitmans for my circulated Franklin halves and JFKs, but those are just folders, and I wouldn't use them for anything with more then melt value.

I only use Dansco albums. I do have some coins in Whitman folders though.

The last year or so I have switched over to all Dansco's. In fact I am picking up two more today, that I ordered last week. A Kennedy half album (no proofs) and a Dansco for currency. On the Dansco's, the 8xxx series have proof only issues and the 7xxx are with out proofs. For example a Dansco 8100 has slots for Lincoln proofs and a Dansco 7100 for P and D mints and S mints that were business strike Lincolns. Here are some of my Dansco albums.

Thanks albumcollector
but I am just trying to make it to middle class. Some of the members here have very impressive collections. One older gentleman member has over 200 whitman albums, if I remember right.

I like the whitman albums best, but after all they are cheaper then dansco. I just care that the album has covers for the coins, and then which ever is cheapest.

WHITMAN FOREVER. I've been using Whitman Albums for as long as they have been making them. The main reason though is way, way back when I started collecting and being in the MidWest, only Whitman Albus existed here. Naturally over time as the pony express was replaced with faster methods of travel, Dansco started to move into my area. And as reports of how much better they were than the other manufacturers began spreading out, I tried in vain to dispute such horrible rumors. I attempted to show other coin collectors how much better a Whitman Album was but they kept falling apart as I demonstrated this. Sort of kidding you know. I do use mostly Whitman Albums but the reason is I get them mostly free. You should all try what I do. I go to lots of coin shows and so much I get to know dealers by constantly talking to them, not necessarily buying anything either. I've asked many where they get so many coins and many of them say how they buy up collections in Albums, take out all the coins, place in flips for sale, throw out the Albums. Dealers all say most people don't want to buy a used Album for some reason so they throw them out. I've asked dealers if they would bring them to the next show for me then. A few started to do that. One dealer brought me two boxes of them which came out to be about 80 Albums and Folders. After that he constantly brings me Albums and also Folders. I give all the Folders to a someone I know at a flea market and he sells them easily. Littleton and some other brands I hardly ever hear of I give to kids in the neighborhood. All Dansco and Whitman Albums I figure out which I want or need and give the rest to some other coin collectors I know. Although I must admit comparing Dansco with Whitman, I must admit the Dansco is a much better constructed Album. More impressive appearance for a color and cover too. What I don't like about them is some have so many empty slots at the end. Obviously poor planning on how many coins are to be in an Album. Whitman appears to have had better planning since most of their Albums have slots for just what is needed for that collection. I dislike the Blue color though. However, if using those press on Gold letters/numbers on blank pages they show up as if original. I also like Whitman for the massive variety of blank covers and pages for almost any denominations. With that I've made some odd types of Albums such as an Liberty Head/Indian Head/Jefferson Nickel Album. No Proofs or error coins though. Same with Liberty Head/Mercury/Roosevelt Dimes all in the same Binder. Again, no proofs or error coins. Danso pages can be turned over and over many times without any problems as a general rule. Whitman pages start to come apart if the pages are turned to many times and the edges get messy. Littleton Albums are just ugly. Intercept shields are just not common enough. Library of Coins too are to rare. But I'd like to see more Whitman people here on Earth again.
