Guys, I got an 1877 Indian Head cent (PCGS G4) in the mail today, and that completes my Flying Eagle/Indian Head Cents set. In fact, it completes my small cents collection (regular business strike) from 1857 through 2010. Cool, huh? I feel pretty good about it. For those of you who cry out for pictures.....after using my old scanner for the past six years, it's trying to go belly up on me; however, I was able to scan the obverse pages of the Dansco Album I have them in before the scanner started acting up. I posted them in the member's photo galleries (Ralph) - best I can do for right now. Ralph

Congrats Ralph! That is quite an accomplishment. Now you just need to save up for the big dawg to complete the entire run of small cents, although one could consider this complete as is! (by big dawg, I mean 1856 FE)

I salute you.

Indian Heads are cool. My wife calls them Lisa Simpson pennies.

Congratulations on your accomplishment! I just recently started adding to my childhood collection of FE/IHC and I think I have around 10 to go!

Thanks guys. First of all - SuperDave...coming from you, I consider that a real compliment. I can remember back when I was still pretty green, in both the forum and coin collecting, you were always ready with much needed advice when I was unsure of something.....happened alot back then, and still happens today; however, not quite as much today as back then. I've been reading and trying top put what I read into practice.
Sprucansailor - I started collecting coins back in March of 2005, so it's creeping up on six years. I started out with a few of these and a few of those, and I've just kept adding to my sets - got a few that are complete - even more that are incomplete, but I'm working on 'em.
Johnny54321 - doubt I'll ever have an 1856 - costs too much, and the Dansco Album doesn't have a hole for it. I've been using them as sort of a guide for my collection - got an empty hole, find the appropriate (and, hopefully inexpensive) coin to fill that hole.
Whats next? I never know - I've got several sets of circulated coins that are near completion - missing key and semi key dates. I usually don't put alot of concentration into a particular set until I'm down to the keys. Then, it's all about watching and waiting (and saving). I get there....just not too fast.
Again, guys, thanks for the compliments - they mean alot.
Ralph

Congratulations on your accomplishment! It's a big deal completing an IHC collection, I just finished mine earlier this year after 10 years of working on it(minus the 1856).

Congratulations!! Funny that you skipped the '56... honestly, it's one of the only coins I would consider a true "investment" and as a result, it's high on my list. But its price is prohibitive - I do get that! I've almost got my Lincoln Wheats done - I'm down to the '09 S VDB. It'll be some time until I catch up with you! What's next? Upgrades? New sets? Large cents?

Yeah, the 1856 is definitely a show stopper. I don't know anyone who actually owns one in real life or on this forum (though I'm sure there is someone here who does). My comment was more tongue and cheek. It is never a coin I could go out and buy, BUT if I ever decided to consolidate my collection into a few high value coins, the 1856 FE would be one of my top choices, along with some pre 1834 US gold.
