ZEEWOOL...I'm interested in your statements from other tread posts....that you dont know much about coins? I've only been around here a couple of weeks or so, but, you seem to have knowledge of coins and collecting? Your insights as to the minting process are very valuable to say the least..If you don't know much about coins, what is your interest?

Quote: hey, could you pass that over here? HA !......I replied with something very, very similar the first time I encountered an 'aladinslamp' post.....(I might have been a little more blunt though)......anyway, he responded with a very cheery character and personality, and we have been tight buds ever since. edited to add: Quote: what is your interest? My interest lies in machines and tools (presses and dies) rather than the product (coins) that they produce......'it takes all kinds' they say......(I am the 'other' kind)......

Thanks Z, That's what I figured, but I had to ask. I used to work at Tonka Toys as a Press Worker so I have some minimal knowledge as I remember the Die Experts having to fix the dies sometimes. ..Cheers

Well...I just got the VanAllen/Mallis book this afternoon. I've read now for about 3 hours and my eyes are bugged out. I'm 57, and I figure by the time I'm 60 I'll have a fairly good comprehension of this all...Cheers to all who have replied to my posts and encouraged me, although I maybe didn't need the encouragement. My coin collecting demon came back a year or so ago after laying wait for a few years, and is back at full force since I found this website.

that "encyclopedia" can be overwhelming if you try to take it all in at once. If you have any Morgans in your collection I would just look at what you have and see if you can match any up with whats in the book. Thats what I did when I first started and actually found I had some pretty nice ones in my collection already. There is some very good information in the book also though, about the minting process of the day and other good information that can be valuable throughout your collecting coins of all denominations

I'm picking up a complete collection of Orleans tomorrow, half BU, half VF+ and about 50 other 1920's Morgans and Peace that took me 2 years to complete the deal.. It will keep me occupied for the winter and then some....I still can't thank you Bryan because of your discovery and Zeewool for the specifics and others also for the BIG jolt....Cheers from the Tundra....

Dang.... meet my newest rich buddy...a winter with new orleans... ... but seriously WOW you got your hands full of some cool stuff...one minor point is, that they are weakly struck in general depending on the date...and with the help of many here that are very helpful in helping you......there is no money passed here.....only ideas...and very good ones at that....... and.......... a lot of fun too.....

That sounds like one heck of a collection....All of the 'O's must have taken someone quite a bit of time to assemble..... My sincere wishes that they live up to your expectations.....You must post a few pictures (one at a time) when you are able.
The Tundra...? Where on the tundra do you hang out? I know of another rugged guy who is (or was anyway) a forum member here, and lives way up there in North Dakota. I think that he jets around in his dog sled and clubs seal pups in the spring, and lives off whale blubber in the winter. I used to worry about him getting attacked by polar bears, as he (schmidty)is pretty fearless.

They were assembled in 2002-2003 by relations.....I live 100 miles NW of Minneapolis. Also, for me to figure out how to post photos will be a miracle, but with help from the wife and an angel of some sorts. I never learned computer stuff other than emailing and googling..soon come...I hope....

I got my complete "O" set today, plus 57 other mixed Peace and Morgan. I've been sorting since 4 oclock and it's just too awesome. Most of the "O" set is as I said, half BU, half VF-Unc. The 57 others are basically EF-AU. Now the fun starts! My eyes will be bugged out until spring! I feel like a kid in a candy store and the candy is free!....I'll be VAMMIN.....

New Orleans Morgans as aladinslamp mentioned can be hard to grade because most of the dates are softly struck that came out of their mint so a coin that looks EF could very well be a BU coin with a soft strike. metalman is the expert on everything New Orleans in the Morgan department
