I know that SGS is basement slabber, but sometimes they really have really nice looking coins. I have always avoided bidding on them for the fear of a problem coin which I am sure most of us have experienced with E-bay.
But has any one been lucky?. I'll give an example. Yestreday there was a beautiful walker that was graded MS67 which it obviously was not, but from the pictures I could call it a MS62-63. But I didn't bid and the winning bid on it was under $30.
Has anyone had good experiences?

I haven't had any experience purchasing SGS or other TPG oddities, I only deal w/ the big 3. I'm sure you can snag a bargain now and then, but overall the risk of being had is too great. Most of the sellers that sell this crap are relying on people not knowing what they're buying so they can sell the overgraded junk at a premium. Personally, I'd stay away from them unless you know for certain exactly what you're buying.

Treat SGS coins the same way as raw coins. Learn to grade it and judge any problems and then pay what you think it's worth, not what the so called grade indicates.

I agree, there are some deals to be had in basement slabs but be sure you know how to grade and how to detect problems from pictures. Just grade it yourself and judge what its worth by your grade not the grade on the holder. Just treat it as you would a coin in a 2x2 with a grade scribbled on the cardboard. if the price goes over what you think it should be worth just walk away. never get to close to the coin that you can't lay it down once the price is more than you thought it should sell for the first time you saw it. I use this philosophy on all coins whether it be in a TPG holder or not

As long as you know how to grade and the pictures are good enough to verify grade, I say that's fine.
Most SGS coins are perfectly fine just grossly overgraded. Let me guess, MS70 right?
