I have an 1884-O as well. So, I will be following this to see if he gets the money he is stating (and I'm wishing) this coin is worth.

I have a MS-66 1884-O that I paid less than $300.00 for so this is just one of those people that think its old so it has to be worth a fortune without actually checking to see what its actually worth

I've run into people (non collectors)that have gone into Redbooks or PCGS Price Guides, then automatically assumed the highest price is what their coin is worth. And you cannot convince them otherwise...you just have to laugh and walk away.

I agree, it's just one of those people who think any older coin is worth a ton. It appears that he either arbitrarily came up with that number or looked at the price for the highest grade for an 1884CC, that's the only number that is close to $8k.

Very overpriced. For that price it would have to be a certified MS-67, 67PL+, or 67DMPL. No way to tell with that pic.

Here's part of the POP report:

PCGS Price Guide 4 12 40 55 62 63 64 65 66 67
1884-O $1 21 23 25 28 38 47 62 152 485 3,300
1884-O $1, DM -- -- -- -- 54 90 325 875 4,500 15,000
1884-O $1, PL -- -- -- -- 47 75 130 275 600 9,500
1884-O $1 + -- -- -- 28 39 50 72 221 727 4,950
1884-O $1, DM + -- -- -- -- 59 115 400 1,312 6,600 20,000
1884-O $1, PL + -- -- -- -- 50 85 150 325 900 --

I know a pawn shop that does that. They were paying $10 each for Moran's and Peace dollars and pricing them according to the highest listed price in the Red Book. When I asked the guy why they were so over priced, in a nut shell, he told me that they don't know how to grade coins so they have to list them like that in order to keep from getting short changed. $10 bucks each and they are worried about not getting full price.

welcome to the tampa/st. pete craigslist.... I live here and for the month or so I've been in to coins, everything seems overpriced on there (even my own listings, but they arent that overpriced, I tend to go higher because you are inevitably going to get a lower offer)

Seriously. Clowns like this have infiltrated our great hobby and feed on ignorant, uninformed people.

Those pictures are amazing!
