Apparently building a set of 1882 is costly due to low production numbers. What do you think of this low grade half?

I'm thinking more like G-6 or maybe VG-8 at best. The reverse rim is still complete but getting faint in spots. I can see the LIBERTY band but only a trace of the L and Y is visible. At this level of wear the minor rim damage should not keep the coin from being graded by, say, PCGS.
Presumably this is a worn business strike (rather than a proof that got spent) and as such is quite scarce. It's a very desirable coin in spite of the low grade. Are you considering a purchase? If you can get it for maybe $250 or less it's probably a good deal.

Looks like an honest G06 but could easily grade VG8. I agree that VG10 is optimistic. Tough date!

Reverse looks weaker to me so I am going to say VG-8

with everything Jaobler said.

This coin is definitely worth keeping seeing as there were only 4,400 business strikes of this coin type minted.

Good-6. I am not sure if there are any diagnostic markers that would be visible on a coin of this grade that could be used to determine if it is a business strike or a Proof.

I would say vg8 obv, g6 rev net vg8. Obv tends to carry more weight and there are a few areas of nice detail there. Good coin for a scarce date
