Quote: I teach major structural collapse rescue. How coincidental.....As I recall, one of your mentors is skilled in major structural (design that will not result in the need for) collapse rescue. I certainly hope that you guys have not experienced the need to work together on a professional basis...

The New Madrid seismic zone is a geologically active earthquake zone in the boot hill area of Missouri. There is a similar seismic zone in Indiana, the Wabash seismic zone. We have not had to work together professionally. Alan tries to prevent bad things from happening on buildings by doing good design and retrofitting. I work with people that have to enter damaged buildings when bad things have happened.

Yeah, I gathered the relativity in your jobs.....be sure to tell Alan to try to keep his profession separate form yours.
I am unfamiliar with these two faults....interesting....are they interconnected as part of a larger system beneath our feet? (Just to keep this coin related); do you ever find coins, Morgans in particular, while dragging careless engineers from the wreckage of their folly?

Well, I have procrastinated long enough, classes start again shortly after Christmas, and I have much to get done before then..... I am unable to devote the time necessary to that which I must do while I am doing what I like to do, so cold turkey time has arrived......I've learned much here as well as at Vamworld, yeah, I admit it.....there are some really great folks at both places, and Collectors Universe as well. Peace to all (and Morgans too, of course).....

Apparently "crying out" is not allowed at VAMworld.

I HATE MOVING,,,,,,But as i have been gone,,,, I must say, this topic has really expanded far beyond what I had hope to address.... Frankly I am amazed by all of those whoa re responding! and the many points involved with the vamming idea... and all of the positive and negative circumstances that surround this subject..........The love of those who collect and those who live to make a profit...this subject is surrounded by far more than the idea of just collecting... one could write a book on the trials and tribulations of vamming let alone the coins them selves...its the trouble of trying to make sense of collecting error coins...... For most "call it an XYZ" coin and most will accept any buy it as its called....... BUT THERE WILL ALWAYS BE.....those who question the process and knowledge of just how things really happened, realizing the given reasons don't add up......and we question why.... Also knowing any "KNOWN" answers are hidden in suppliments, if you happen to subscribe.... Its only by free exchange of knowledge can the answers be known.... the trouble is its an extensive subject with many doors and the IDEA of a vamming 101 is good as a basis of understAnding what a VAM is.... its a "far cry" from really knowing what this is all about.........its a complex subject about the results, the known coins and the process and the reasons why they are, the true reasons why..... it is for these reasons why we post here.. as we all contribute. in answers and in our questions......

Morgan's dad said "It would appear, for some time, there are some storms brewing on "the know it all site"......" The issue is censorship and not allowing discussion on the following topics: Areas of discussion they prefer not to discuss, These are the seven deadly sins. Where is the VAM hobby headed? What happens after Leroy Van Allen is gone? What suggestions would you make to grow the hobby? The uneasy dealer/ collector symbiosis. How many VAM collectors are there really? Are my vams really worth as much as some claim? The premise of vamming. Is it real or over hyped to sell coins for more than they are worth? In their defense, the moderator considers these topics to be contentious. But are they really so contentious that entire threads need to be locked to prevent further discussion or disapear entirely? Super Dave brought up an interesting point in another thread when he said there are not enough variety collectors. Why is that?

Ask this question to a group of coin collectors (not vammers, but average joe blow coin collectors).....
"Do you want your slab to say..... MS-65..... or...... MS-65 VAM-6" ?
(You may be surprised at the responses).

I do try to stay out of many of the topics listed. I buy what I like and not because of hype. I will look for ones posted if I find them neat or for that matter remember. As for where it is going, who will be in "charge" I find most of it nothing more then a distraction. I for one do not need to go into space to find it amazing, or to fully know that the earth is flat! The personalities that seem to get into conflict are nothing more then a Peeing match. I try to follow one simple rule that I use at home..."Yes dear" few times have I found that an argument over anything is worth the lost of a friend. But I "being a guy" am never wrong.... Just mistaken! Maybe I should of added, I have no problem standing up and being counted. But when I see people yelling as it would be, I hear my father! Growing up he always said " Any man that needs to yell ...Has nothing to say!" So I see the disagreements like a fire and just move my gas can away. It's safer

I can't believe how much info this topic has covered!! All in one post............ Vamming is such an intense study full of diversity as well as idea's. however as Oz mentioned......better get your ideas and questions straight before you ask........they may or will not be welcomed when venturing into the grey areas........ BE THAT AS IT MAY BE......I think the political issues SHOULD NEVER...........OVERWHELM this hobby WE HAVE and are involved with, ....we do need to be WARNED and INFORMED, of those who would take advantage of our lack of knowledge....over pricing........ BUT THIS ISSUE IS being talked about now, and I say we should ACT rather than just talk.......it does not matter about the base collectors unless your in it for the money...... There is the ability now to openly talk about vamming and expand the knowledge, there are many here with many degree's of understanding that can help, as its not a one person has the say so here.......as well as there are many with very technical back rounds who only help in the discussions....... This would not be re-inventing the wheel.....but rather an addition tool to those who would like to research VAM's in there own way and time......I say "go for it" and continue to improve the understandings......

Although I think you are getting a little personal there Russ, your point is well taken....I have been more than just a little bit overbearing I will admit, and there really is no need for it here....I am naturally very competitive, and I just wanted to prove that I am just as good, just as able, as the next person....I will tone down my rhetoric, in hopes that you will feel more comfortable in jumping in on topics that I post on....let me slide Russ, it is the season for that.

My view is real simple. If we are going to educate: then educate. If you are going to teach: then teach. But teach all of it.

Quote: I say we should ACT rather than just talk....... Okay, maybe I am not as good or as able as the next person (since I have evidently missed the premise of the topic now being discussed). Just what are you talking about please? Are we to rise up against our oppressors or what action is in the offing?
