My son (6 year old) and I were roll searching today. Normally I explain what post mint damage is when we find it. Today however was different. He's a big spongebob fan, and this is what he found in a roll. Now, he has a collection he's quite proud of, even a 1909-S cent, but he'd trade any for this... ;)

Great find! I've never heard of one and it's even cooler you had a 6 year old to share the find with!

Sorry Kefiroth- I can't see the date, however, its 2.6g, so a zincoln. Lotta wear on both "faces", so it circulated a bit with the PMD.

I wonder if, besides the MS70 grade, SGS would put "spongebob variety" on their holder :-)

I agree SGS are the Jedi knights of grading, but I don't think my boy could stand the stress of mailing it off. Russ, he likes gold, but says no Lady Liberty can make a crabby patty.

Tennlee...that is really funny...if I approached your son with a 1933 Double Eagle in trade for his sponge bob penny you're right, he would probably turn it down. Ahhhhh the bliss of childhood!! :)

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
That Sponge BoB is a beauty.
What a great find for a kid.
If your son says the sponge bob is worth more than a 09s,
who are we to disagree.

By SGS grading standards, that looks like an MS-71 First Strike Satin PF DCAM Registry **

Might even make a grade higher depending on whether Larry or Bob grades it.

Is it painted on or a sticker? I need to find something like this, of course for my non-existent kids.
