Outstanding. MS65-66. It gets more difficult with pictures when the grade gets this high.

MS-65. If it makes MS-66, I believe that would make it a PCGS Registry Coin with relatively few examples.

It has a chance! Nice nickel.

Wow

I agree this will grade mucho-high ......... even at that resolution of a photo (which shows every defect) the fields are nearly pristine. I would agree MS65 for sure and maybe even MS66/MS67.

In addition ....... the strike is absolutely hammered! That was tough to do back in that day.

My two favorite indicators of strike quality in this series are:

1. Stars on the obverse. A well struck star will show six individual 'petals'. 11 of the 13 stars on this obverse are fully detailed ........ only stars #7 and #8 (at the top of the head) are not fully struck. That is outrageous.

2. Corn cobs in the wreath on the reverse. There are two ...... one the the right above "TS' and one to the left above "CE". I almost never see an example where both of these cobs are fully detailed ....... and in this case you could have either of them with your summer picnic.

Soooooo ... the combination of very clean fields coupled with a massive hammered strike makes this a truly high end find.

I'd send this baby to PCGS and see if it comes back a top-population registry coin.

Lovely.

David

I could definitely see a TPG going MS-66 on the OBV and MS-65 on the REV with a net of MS-66 since the OBV is always favored. A bit too much chatter around the "V" for the Reverse to make 66

Hey .... I've been thinking about this lovely coin ..... and have to wonder if this is a Proof issue?

There were 2,960 Proof coins in 1887 ..... versus 15.2 million circulation strike coins.

The details of strike are so sharp that I'm changing my opinion to PR66.

Offer opinions (supported by fact) to tell me I am wrong.

AU 58.

just kidding! But ya. 66. Is that a slight weakness in the knot at the bottom of the wreath and the first baby corn stalk on the left? if not, 67!

Great coin Jaobler

Wow. That's a big strike.

66 is Condition Census for this coin. A TPG might be hesitant to turn an $800 65 into a $2000 66 by giving yours that grade, but in your shoes I'd find out.
