4 Morgans, Help With Which VAMs!

Not too sure about VAM-16, but neither are they. There are two claimed obverses for 16. This coin resembles the first, in terms of date location, but it lacks the doubled ear - I don't know if that's a smoking gun or not. Further, the mint mark more resembles the second coin at VAMworld, were the obverse more resembles the first.

I'm trying to follow everything you say about the coins, but it's quite hard for a rookie. Thanks for re-posting in smaller size!

Yes, we've searched my grandpa's house quite thoroughly, although there are some places left to look at. Tomorrow I'm going to check under a newer section of the floor in the attic.. Which he has nailed quite much.. hmm.. ;) It's just so hard to know where he'd put everything... I mean we can find some stamps right in the middle of any book in any bookcase or box, or even coins.. However I wish to find as much as possible before they get too much damage to moist. It's an old house and he has always lived here so I guess there are more hidingplaces than we know.

I will take a look at acetone for that coin as well. I think we have many many many coins that might need acetone or similar.. I've bought a new spotlight lamp for coin picturing. Hopefully I won't need to have the spotlight so close so it gets overlighted. I'll try some with black background as well!

Talk about effort with sorting the coins.. We have 3-5x more stamps.. That's A LOT of work. ;)

Yeah it's fun but I think most of the coins are already found. I'm just surprised that he had as many as 25k coins.. Just being a private little collector.. well for 60 years or longer..

Aye, I've noticied that the small details are very important when "VAMMING"! That's why I seeked aid here. I've posted quite a few topics already but will probably be posting a great number of chinese/japan/korean and similar coins which I have no clue how to ID properly.

I have a question, I have some coins from 1700-1800 from different countries all over the world. Would you recommend a Krause catalog or are there any other alternatives for world coins 1700-1800? I already have 1800-1900 and 1900-2000 Krause, and I use them for IDing my foreign coins. They aren't that cheap to buy though, so are there any cheaper alternatives?

Well cost isn't so much a factor when it's just a book, but I don't have that many coins from 1700. Maybe the book is worth more than the coins ;)

Perhaps so. A much cheaper alternative would be to post some of them here.

I have Krause from 1600-2000, as do many others whose experience far exceeds mine. Use the "World Coins and Commemoratives" forum, and post them in batches of 4 or 5 so you do not start multiple threads which displace those of other members. We'll be happy to help.
