I have a feeling the beauty of this coin is not exhibited the photo. As it appears the color looks unnatural, so I would suspect it was dipped, a condition easier judged in hand.
Appears to be some wear on the lower locks of her hair and headress ribbon. Very nice clean fields and crisp liberty AU58

Hard to grade this one for me because either the color of the coin isn't right, or the lighting/flash isn't right that hit the coin during the picture. It is at least an AU58, but could be MS63+

AU, artificial color....best guess based on scans.

Scans, are really hard to grade on.. I would say your coin looks AU, also..

Either AU-58 or MS-64 possibly recolored. I'm leaning toward MS-64 with some nice rainbow toning. Can you post pictures that show the luster?

I wish I could produce better pics, but I am quite limited by my scanner. I have no reason to believe this coin was dipped as it shows no sings of such. I have dipped IHC's in the past and none look this good. Mycrob you are right about the lighting. My scanner seems to wash out the beautiful color of this coin. As Fenton suggests ther is very nice rainbow toning on this piece, but I dont think it has been recolored. I found this coin in an antique shop for 3 dollars !

looks like it cleaned and retoned silver coins tone with rainbow colors naturally , copper that I have seen does not at least not purple just throw a old indian in the oven for 15 minutes at 400 degrees and you will see what I mean. Antique shops are famous for buying and reselling thats what they do. I bet they buy um by the pound for a few cents each. Would not surprise me if they had alot of them under the counter and next week when you went back another appeared " we found it in a old dresser drawer " when they prob have a whole stash of retones/cleaned IHC's underthe counter.

but still its a ms60+ coin so its a good deal at 3$ books at $30-$50 bucks any year indian head in ms+ is worth $30+ despite the color alterations. If you listed it on ebay I think it still would do $20-$30 being the details are so nice. heck might even do more

Based on the scans, I would guess it is AU. I see what looks like possible wear on the lowest curl below the 4 diamonds and also on the hair just below the B in LIBERTY. The color doesn't look natural. It looks....too even, which leads me to believe it is artificial. But hey, for $3 it's not a bad buy at all, regardless of whether or not the surfaces are original.

did you check for the made in china stamp ?
Some of the antique stores around here sell garbage that " looks antique "
I am serious , went into a store and saw a decent looking table It looked old and used . I looked under it were the metal bracket is to slip in a leaf extention to make the table wider. Sure enough I found a sticker that said " made in china " found another teak looking table " made in india "
I looked at the lady and she said some stuff we have is not antiques at all but retro style and collectic replicas.
I was like OMG they just throw stuff out there and its buyer beware mixing and matching antiques with modern junk

I took this into my local dealer, who is very reputable, and asked about the color and toning. he assured me that it had not been recolored or cleaned, and the toning may be some sort of oil that would likely be removed with a mild soap. he also showed me a few pieces that were comparable to mine that assured me that my coin had not been tampered with.

Glad to hear it. Don't use ANY soap or attempt to clean it! Leave it just like it is.

I agree Thad. I know to NEVER clean a coin. Especially one that I intend to keep. He said to do that at my own risk. I chuckled, he smiled. I have good rapport with him , and I trust him. I will try to get better pics up. In response to coppertop. This IHC was sitting by itself in a mylar, away from the other 200 or so IHC's that were in a ziplock baggie for sale at 2 bucks a pop.
