My brother gave me a quarter dated 1818 for Christmas. I think it is in pretty good condition. It came attached to a Christmas card with this story.

This coin was a Birthday gift to George Washington on his 12th birthday from his Uncle Sylvester. He kept it in his shoe until his 19th Birthday, at which time he spent it on a Cigar.
So the story goes.
The coin is dated 1818, President George Washington born 1732---
Must have been a different George Washington.

Not sure which I like more, the coin or the story, and the effort he put into writing it.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.

I have an interesting Christmas story to share. My wife was at our local bank this week taking care of some business as she was waiting for the teller to process her transactions she noticed a tray behind the counter full of change.

On the top of the tray was a Kennedy 40% silver piece she asked the teller if she could purchase the coin with no problem. It ended up in my Christmas Sock for me to open Christmas eve. I just thought that was great considering the fact that I could search every roll of half dollars at the bank and not find anything but she just walks in and there it was!

I wish I had a sibling who gave me such an awesome gift! They could care less about my coins and what they mean to me. But, that's OK because I buy coin gifts for myself all of the time!

Neat story, anything that old is quite a nice gift!

I had an awesome Christmas involving coins. My father is an avid collector, well used to be, money issues have stopped him as of recently and was kind enough to give me part of his collection today as a Christmas gift. It's all modern stuff, no classic coins this year.

-----------Nickels-----------
2004 Peace Medal P&D Mint Box Set
2005 American Bison P&D Mint Box Set
(x2) 2005 Ocean View P&D Mint Box Set
(x2) 2006 Return To Monticello P&D Set

----------Dollars----------
2005 P Mint Box (Sacagawea)
2007 P Mint Box (George Washington)
2007 D Mint Box (George Washington)

He also gave me a 2006 Legacy Set and a Uncirculated 2006 S San Fransisco Old Mint Commemorative Dollar. I'm also going to pick between a MS70 FS 2010 ASE or just a MS70 ASE. Overall it was a great Christmas for my coin collection!
