Hello, everyone. I'm new to the forum and was wondering if you guys could help me with grading this barber half. I would like to know its grade and value if possible. I really like it I'm just not comfortable with my grading skills. I collected coins as a child with the help of my mother and just broke the old collection out of the safe deposit box. Upon seeing and handling all the old coins I instantly fell in love with coins all over again. Anyway, here are some pics of the coin I'm referring to. Thanks

Yes, it truly is a beautiful coin. I compared it to some MS coins in PCGS and NGC holders but it's so hard to tell sometimes. For me anyways.

Looks like a proof. I don't see any major marks or hairlines so it would probably grade at least PR-63 (Proof 63). Values for proof Barber halves range widely depending on the specific numerical grade. Your coin is probably worth at least $600 or so, assuming it does not have any problems like cleaning or polishing. This coin should be sent to a grading service (PCGS would be my choice) so they can confirm its proof status and assign a grade. If you are looking to sell it someday you will get top dollar if it's in a PCGS holder. Make sure you "handle" this coin carefully! The mirror surfaces of a proof are delicate and can be stained and scratched easily. Don't touch the obverse or reverse with your fingers since finger oils will leave prints over time. Tiny defects can significantly reduce the value. Congrats on becoming re-infected by collecting interest! Please share any other interesting coins you discovered in the safety deposit box!

These are not my specialty at all - and the picture is pretty small- but it is definitely MS; I am going to say MS-64 based on the hit on the right obverse field and the scattered marks on the back.
It has a little bit of a proof look to it - and there were proofs issued in 1901.
Numismedia says a PR-63 is $1250; PR-64 is $1840.
MS-63 is $940; MS-64 is $1380.
Those are all retail prices for certified coins.
Great coin - I would be very careful handling it and get it protected in a 2x2 or airtite holder. You might consider getting some to look at it and consider having it slabbed.

I agree it looks more like a proof strike than a business strike and a nice one at that. I don't know how it could look so good not being protected, but get it protected ASAP

It's great to have you here! Honestly, I cannot tell if its a proof or biz strike from your pictures. That is a beauty. I would definitely slab that one or at least, an airtite.

Wow, what a beauty. I'd have to agree it does look more like a proof. Get a 2x2 or an airtite for it ASAP! Then work on getting it slabbed, definitely worth it on this one. also

I would say PF-63 or better Cameo....handle it very carefully as others have said. There is no way this is a business strike unless its polished, and it doesn't look polished to me...
