to CCF IMO all coin albums will tone / change color. Alot depends on your storage environment. Is it dry/ damp, do you smoke in the house? do you have moisture packs in you safe. Some on the forum put their coins in the Dansco and the in a zip lock bag. I personally use the Dansco, the slips are non pvc.Others will pop on and give their advise also

Not only that, but have you ever heard of the concept of perpetual motion? In my opinion, Danskos have too much room in their albums. Rub ruined several of my Peace dollars in just 6 months. The space around the coin elongated and the coin fell between the plastic and page. I've gone to air-tites.

Although not a Dansco person, I've hear from Dansco people that they have had coins in their Albums for many, many years and no problems. I met someone not to long ago that told me he uses Littleton Albums and has for a real long time and no problems with them either. I've had coins in Whitman Albums for as long as they have been in existance and never had a problem with any coins at all. I now have over 100 Albums and no problems with any ocins in any of them. Although this forum is full of Dansco people I constantly brag about my Whitman Albums but over time I too may end up changing. Whitman has been bought out and resold many times and is now owned by Harris. their quality has really gone downward. Dealers I used to get Whitman products from are all changing to Dansco due to quality and availability. Regardless of what brand you use, it's the invironment and how you store your Albums that some have problems with.

They are safe. I have mine in a safe deposit box with absorbent packs in there as well. I wear cotton gloves when placing coins in the slots and take caution when sliding the Mylar covers over the coins. All coins will tone over time so the Danscos are no exception to this. For example, if you are collecting RD cents, they will turn RB over long periods. I have been very happy with them so far.

I agree with all of those that say they are safe. My two oldest albums are now over 26 years old with no complaints. Keep them cool and dry; just like you should keep your coins to begin with, regardless of the storage device.

The Dansco albums are safe...I think they are the best albums out there! I'm working on a 7166 Kennedy half dollar album right now!

As I always say this is beginning to be a DANSCO PEOPLE forum. They are averywhere, everywhere. I know there are Whitman people out there too but probably to ashamed to admit that. I too have had coins in Albums for many, many years and nothing ever changes in their appearance. One thing I always do is to put all of them in Zip Lock Plastic Bags. And I double those bags on the Albums I consider the best ones.

I've seen coins damaged by dansco albums due to the plastic sliding across the face of the coin. If dust or particles get in between the plastic and coin, it can cause a scratch.
If I'm concerned about the preservation of my coins, I don't put them in such an album. Airtites or something similar are much safer, both because movement against the coin is minimized and becuase the plastic is very nutral and will not react with the surface of the coin like paper or cardboard can. Also, as chris said, the storage enviornment is very important too.

Most coins are thinner than the cardboard pages. If inserted carefully, both sides of the coin should be well clear of the slides. Even if it touches the back slide, you should be okay since you only need to move one slide to insert coins (although removing them can be tricky). The only time I had noticed the slide touching the coin is with my Eisenhower dollars. In that case, I was very careful (and nervous). I have never noticed a problem with them, though. I will admit that it is not offer perfect protection. Ultimately, an Air-Tite or similar product would be the best, especially for high-end coins. Luckily I like the mid-grades.

Although I enjoy the presentation of DANSCO albums, I am just scared to death to use them...all that extra handling of the coins, worrying about the slides, possible toning, etc. I have always been a 2x2 cardboard flip kinda guy. Fold and staple...repeat!

I've read a few threads about the Dansco 7000 pages which DO have PVC. I use them for a couple of collections but coins are in 2x2 flips and I have no worries. I have avoided buying the slipcases for the 7000s thinking that air circulation would be preferred; but I've read that the slip cases have PVC inhibitors built in (Perhaps not the scientific correct term) to minimize any reactive problems.
I know one other (perhaps more) members who use the 7000. Comments from them would be appreciated.

I guess six years in the ground was too long for this thread! Anyway, my oldest Dansco albums are now over 32 years old. Still going strong. Quote: I know one other (perhaps more) members who use the 7000. Comments from them would be appreciated. I have several. No problem with those, other than some pages sagging over time. I have replaced them and reordered the coins so the heavier ones are on the bottom rows only.

I use them. My understanding is that the hard slip covers are treated (with a chemical I assume) to protect the coins better.
