I found this penny today in a box of Canadian pennies.

I would call this Machine Doubling, but still learning, what does a pro think. There is also slight shelving on "GOD" and "WE".

Not a pro, but definitely Machine Doubling.

The '69-S seems to run rampant with MD. It almost seems harder to find one without it!

Nice MD, especially on the mintmark. However, it kind of looks like a hit on the nose?

Print this out and paste it on your wall...

On ANY cent minted before 1990 - if the mintmark AND date are affected similarly, it is ALWAYS Machine Doubling.

These two features are placed into the die separately during the die making process, so there's NO way a doubled die could affect the mintmark, and there's NO way a repunched mintmark could cause a doubled die.

As of 1990 the mintmark was included as a part of the design on the master, so there is no such thing any more as repunched mintmarks. ANY doubling on the date would automatically affect the mintmark, so a doubled die that affects the date will also appear to be a repunched mintmark.
