My best find ever came several months ago. I'm in line at the gas station and there is a girl in her early 20's. She gets $15 dollars in gas and leaves, the clerk complained it that its sucks when people use old change to pay because he can't give it away. It looked like halves so I bought them from his register. There was $12.50 in 1964 halves, $1.50 in 40% halves and a 1890 O Morgan dollar, I got it all at face! What's your story?

A '63 Phillipine 10 centavo trial piece made in lead. It's tough to reasearch these pieces, as there are fewer than 10 known.

Nice find wolverine! It helps to be at the right place at the right time. It's hard to believe that the gas clerk was so ignorant but that's his loss and your gain. Best find was a 1922-P Peace dollar I cherrypicked from a dealer common silver bin for $15 about 18 months ago. It was one of the top VAMS's (can't remember which one off the top of my head). I sent it in to NGC to get certified and attributed, and turned around and sold it to a dealer in town for around $550-$600. My total cost was about $40 for this coin with grading fees. The best part is the owner of the coin shop can be arrogant as heck sometimes and he asked me if I thought I would find anything good in the silver dollar bin. He said something like "Do you think you are going to find something good in there, something that we missed?". Oh, and I found a second Peace dollar VAM at the same time that I sold for $150-$175 to a dealer. Not bad for stopping by the shop on a whim.

Coinhunter, that awesome when you are able to find great pieces for short money especially when the seller should know better

Wolverine... you story is definitely a right place, right time senario.... congrats! My best recent find was at a local bank that had a few rolled Kennedy halves in their vault. I got 3 rolls and all 3 were 40% silver halves. You could tell they had been untouched for a long time. AND the teller thanked me for taking them!

Michael, I love when tellers thank you for taking stuff. My bank actually holds odd ball stuff for me when they get it and call me if its really nice., and it all started because I bought some random halves from them. Yet another bank gives me dirty looks when I walk in because "he's the coin guy"

Best find was some initials on the back of what was supposed to be a 1909-S penny

I found a 1911 matte proof cent while roll hunting. (Later ANACS certified PR-55) I'm thinking it was probably spent by someone during the great depression, then saw a bit of light circulation. From there it probably found it's way into someone's collection as a regular business strike 1911. Then someone took it out of said collection and dropped it off at my local bank.

I literally started collecting this month, I stumbled upon this forum today seems legit. I went through my coin jar and found: 1949 dime 1944 D Wheat penny1945 Wheat penny1951 D Wheat penny1959 nickel 1961 nickel 1976 half dollar 1976 D quarter not sure what they are worth the dime and the 61 nickel are in the best shape. I plan on getting some rolls every time I cash my pay check, but other than that I'm a poor college student. I am also very interested in error coins. If anyone has any suggestions on what kind of gear I need to look at/photograph coins, or any guidelines on fakes it would be greatly appreciated.

My best find so far (in terms of total value) would be a 1944D-1OM-001 Lincoln Cent in Au condition. I had been close to buying this one from a dealer several times, but ended up getting it for 1c from a cwr! Yea haw!

I doubt this was my best find but it sure felt like it: Just back from Viet Nam in 1971 and prior to returning to college, I worked in a paint store. I was making change in the cash register when I broke open a roll of dimes. They all turned out to be Mercs. Almost wet my pants. I grabbed them and put a "fiver" in the til. I grabbed another roll and it turned out to be Mercs too; almost soiled my self again. The guy buying paint thought I was hilarious. The third roll I opened, very carefully this time, turned out to be a mix of silver also. I was lucky I had $20.00 with me that day. Normally I only kept 5 bucks in my wallet. (In 1971, 20 bucks was a lot of money to a youg college guy.) Now the only problem I had was that I had no dimes in my pocket change nor in the store rolls. I had to make change from the silver Rosies I found. It was OK, I still made up for a lot of lost time collecting Mercks and Rosies while over seas.
