Wasn't the shield reverse not released until Feb? Just curious before I crack this one.

That depends. The first 2010 shield cents were released in Puerto Rico. I got my first 2010 cents on the 22nd of Jan 2010 from a person that lives in Puerto Rico. I believe he got his around the 15th of January 2010. I would think there is very little chance of a shield cent being in this box but with that date it's "possible". Good luck!

Yeah, I think they are sent out to Fed. Resv. banks and such quite early( in advance of any official release date). Then they aren't supposed to actually release them to the public until a certain date, but I don't know that that's always strictly adhered to.

The 2010 Shield Cents were first released in the US at the February 11, 2010 release ceremony in Springfield. However, they were available in Puerto Rico in early January 2010.

Flip the box over & you should be able to see into some of the 50 the inspection holes. You should be able to tell if they are 2010's

Cool. Thanks guys. I guess IF I do find any then either the date is bad or they are RICO pennies. I was just unsure on the actual release date.

So I open it up, and find this looking at me. Now I haven't cracked that roll but that Shield looks pretty used for a coin that was only released a few days before.

what are the odds and is it a full roll or just a single?

I don't think the date stamp on the box has anything to do with when the coins were packed, it might just be when the cardboard box was made.

"INSPECTED BY #0000" Same guy does them out here. Actually, I heard years ago that the date has more to do with the actual cardboard box. These can be made months before they're needed.

yotie: nope it is just a single, the other end shows a LMCI am going to have to agree with the guys about the date not meaning anything. It makes sense. I cracked one of the rolls and found 4 shields and all look like they have been circulating for a year.

Just for the record, I got two BU William Henry Harrison Presidential dollars in my change when I rode the Denver Light Rail on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009. I have them set aside in a marked flip, because: The Harrison Dollars were not officially released until Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009.

Just a note of knowledge (experience).
When you crack a box of coins, if ANY of the rolls are mixed circulated coins, chances are ALL of the rolls will be mixed circulated coins.
