That poor coin! What a shame. It would be quite valuable if it weren't for the damage. The details look close to XF. Maybe VF35 details. 1876 gets pretty pricey in anything above F.

The black and bulge IMO would indicate a torch was put to this coin. What a shame. Yeah, VF+ Details.

I see some wire soldered in the depression. Perhaps it was made into a button?
It was once an EF coin.

The bulge on the obverse prevented the LIBERTY from wearing. Otherwise, it would barely make F.

I don't agree with that. Looks like the bulge was put there pretty much after all the wear happened.

I'd agree with the others - VF details, but with that damage it hardly matters, really.

I just thought I'd share this one because of the shape of most of the coin from that year. Everything except the hole and damage.

Look at tthe beads and absolutely no trace of diamonds.
