So I stop by a coin shop and he has 5 colorized ASEs ( which I think ruins the looks of them) for $36 each. Of course I bought them all but my question is if I try to sell these should I try and soak them in acetone to remove the paint or doesn't that really affect the value any?

collectors normally considered colorized coins as damaged, reducing the value. Wait for experts to speak up how to remove the paint, it at all.

Funny you posted this, my local coin just asked me to soak four of them today.
The first one came out great, the paint came off in about 20 minutes.
The second one has been in the acetone for a couple hours, the paint
is different sort of a jell paint, coming off different. Just two small spots
on it right now.

The first one looks as if it never had the paint and, to me, can still see
luster on the coin.

I would just leave them.

A) those of us that consider it as damage is going to price it as bullion anyway, and
B) some people like that sort of thing and will at least pay you bullion anyway.

We use lacquer thinner to remove paint. I don't think it It would be good for the coin. I agree I would not to buy the coins. IMHO

I recently bought a colorized State Quarter, simply cause I liked it.

that quarter looks like a sticker instead of paint, you can see the dots in it where it was printed. It may have a clear coat over the sticker but it still doesn't look painted

it has all the texture of the design. A sticker would be more flat/smooth.

I have a colored 1 oz silver lunar ox 2009 and a colored 1 oz silver Walking Liberty/Eagle coin with the red white and blue pattern with the yellow sun. I am not not a huge fan of the colored coins either, but these two look great and are something different to look at....

My Mom gave me a 2001ASE colorized with the Twin Towers. A memorial to those who gave their lives that day. Shortly after that she came down with dementia, and is now in the final stages of Alzheimer's. I'm not a fan of colorized ASE's, but that particular one was the last gift that my Mom ever gave me. I guess you could say that I have a priceless colorized Eagle.

My mother gave me my colorized eagle as well, which had been a former gift form an old friend many years earlier....
