This is one of the most captivating threads I've ever seen here! It's cool to watch someone attempt to corner a market in real time. I hope he succeeds on the 2006 magnetic (since I have one) but hope he fails on the P-non-magnetic (cause I don't have one!). Anyway thanks to all the CCF watchdogs for making this a fascinating read.

By the way, I'd love to see someone with some guts (and deep pockets) throw up a $5000 bid and see what this guy does!

I'd get some guts and throw up a $5000 bid, if you send me a $4999 Paypal gift first!

A minor point, but just to keep the archive correct, the 48 dollar mintage was 18,780.

I should stress (in case it wasn't obvious) my comment about 50,000 x 1948 dollar was just poking some fun at the numerous counterfeits.

Well, it is an interesting coincidence re the similarity of names. But what the heck...if they are the same so what? The non mag 2006P remains scarce. Lets be cynical and assume that one person (let's cynically assume larylary) owns 65 of the 73 non mag 2006 cents and has decided to buy the rest. Well, even if so, it is still a very rare coin and one that will cost a lot to own (and likely once the current seller is done even more). Maybe larylary was lucky and found a roll of non mag 2006P. Maybe there was a backdoor mint job. It doesn't really matter to me. I like cents and I wanted one and I managed to find one. There will be others who will feel the same. I deal in weird illiquid things for a living. I like it when I own something that somebody else wants to corner the market on. It leads to a very disciplined market.

It reminds me of the story of the 1856 British Giuana 1d stamp (the world's most valuable). There were supposedly two in existence at one time (in the 1920S). A fellow named Arthur Hind was rumoured to have bought them both and burned one to enhance the value of the one he had left. Maybe larylary will start destroying 2006 cents....... As a collector, I don't like the idea of people destroying coins. But I like drama.... And the Hind story is the best stamp story I have ever heard.

There is no way anyone can get all 2006 magnetic no p, there are at least 100,000+ out there and more to find.
But The non mag 2006P is scarce and someone could buy them all them with lots of $$$

For the record darryldarryl is just Darryl and is not related to larrylarry. Hmmm, well,if you were watching the \newhart \show years ago then maybe there was a relationship.

I need some advice on timing! I want to put my coin on ebay. Should I do it before the current one ends or after it ends? If I do it after then pierre2101 may put up another one giving buyers more options therefore it will probably sell for less. If I list before it ends then pierre 2101 may not want to put his up right away and will hold off?

darryldarryl maybe set a reserve price. If one person is trying to corner the market at all costs, then they'll incrementally bid it up until the reserve price, but not more...
