ADMIN- This thread is directed to DV enthusiasts- it's the only area I regularly hang in this Forum. Please don't move this thread- I don't know folks outside of our tiny niche, and I'm afraid I'd have to curtail my generosity if this thread is placed in another area of the forum, as non-enthusiasts may attempt to capitalize for personal gain.
With that said, my offer is open to anyone who reads this entire thread:
The PNNA show, just south of Seattle, WA is an incredible show. Every year. Last weekend, I was so moved by the selfless efforts of volunteers and non-coin folks who make it possible, that I volunteered my entire family to help set up the day before the show next year.
I've achieved multiple benchmarks in my motivated career in Die Varieties this year, won't pat myself on the back, but I'd like to share my celebration with everyone!
I've put great effort into FIGURING out how to be ethical and still profitable. I love wrestling internally with moral issues, and often pick the brains of those who I respect. I've gotten to interact with many forum members and consider this alone, to be a major "win".
One of the toughest issues I've battled with is how to buy attributed varieties, being fair and honest while still keeping a roof over my family's head.
Something that has given me definition and clarity on the subject is the interaction with dealers and collectors who I respect, and just as importantly, are respectful to my own family family when we travel.
It's easy to dismiss someone, for any reason. Once you write them off, it's not your problem to deal with.....does that make sense? Not to me, but it seems to be a popular theme among coin folks who are proud of themselves. Or perhaps these people have just had more success than experience.
If there's one single lesson I've learned in coins, this is it-
DON'T EVER ESTIMATE SOMEONE! This could mean a ton of things, but in pertinence to this thread, simply, don't judge someone who's not already a friend (unless they give you a reason).
I've been attending my favorite regional show for about 5 years. I'm used to being the "stupid error guy", I even considered marketing one of my business names as such. I've always been dismissed by dealers in my town. And at shows, I always encounter someone who can't wrap their brains around what I do- I'm usually met with distrust or contempt.
Okay, this is getting long- So, in a nutshell-
I've busted my butt to prove myself to people who I thought I wanted to respect me. After becoming a familiar face at my favorite show, for several years......things are different now.
I didn't have enough time to cherry other dealer's stock. My time was evenly split between watching friend's tables and examining the odd coins that my "regular" dealer friends had saved up for me throughout the year. Simply put- I wish there had been 48 hours in each day of the show.
It's immensely gratifying to receive validation for something you've worked on for the majority of your life.
I'm still in Seattle, we decided to extend our vacation for a couple of days.
FOR THE NEXT 24 HOURS- until we arrive home, I'll be offering a free
