Quote: 1773 Spanish 8 Reales MoFM with the assayer initials inverted and 1772 Spanish 8 Reales MoFM with the assayers initials inverted as MF instead of FM (how much did that mint worker have to drink at lunch that day?) Isn't the Mo also inverted?

1766 Bavaria 'Madonna and Child' thaler. It's tough to find one of these without the adjustment marks.

'Tis from Hungary, not Austria, Larry. Same monarch, different kingdom.

Wow, that was a pretty narrow window for 1770. Here's my pillar dollar, slightly out of sequence.

BiggFredd Yes the mintmark is also inverted. Bad day for quality control at the Mexico City mint. All of the 1772's have some issue, the 1773's come inverted and correctly oriented. By 1774 they had corrected all the errors.

I had to quit at 1820 but have enjoyed seeing the amazing pieces all of you have been posting. I have a bunch of non-US/Canada pieces but never really paid any attention to them and, certainly, never had anything as old as what is being posted here. I am awed by some of these designs.

1763 Russia 2 kopeks. The reverse looks a bit messy, because it's been overstruck on a 1762 2 kopeks of Peter III. You can still see the "2" from the old date, where the body of the knight should be.
