I am in the process of cataloging my inherited coins. I stumbled upon this one and am floored, if it's what I think. Looking for a reality check and a grade.

Well, while we're waiting for the experts, I'll take a stab at it... VG10 or F12.

If it's a fake it's a really good one. The date looks right. Magnification is needed to see if it has the diagnostic die line through T of LIBERTY and the "rabbit ears" die chip next to the R of LIBERTY.

I'd grade it VG-10 and I don't see any damage or obvious cleaning problems. I would absolutely send it to PCGS, NGC, or ANACS for authentication and grading. Great, great coin to inherit!

Who was the original collector?

My step dad was a serious collector through the 60's and 70's. Later he just would buy coins and 'hoard' them away. It has been a real adventure digging through all the piles of coins and coin stuff.

I have always been partial to stamps but have bought Silver Eagles and Uncirc sets over the years. I fear I have been bitten by the coin bug.

The task now is to decide what to keep and what to sell. I guess I could have worse problems.

Has all the diagnostics of being genuine. Send this one definitely. I'd go with PCGS personally. I'm also with VG10. Looks very original.

I also have a F12 and this one isn't quite as nice so I'm in the VG10 group too.
