Yes I thought it was pretty major news myself, as I have never heard of such a large company buying pm's over spot, new or not.... I think this shows, there are just now large numbers of the pop catching on, and they are getting on board with the high spike in prices regardless. They are probably just happy to get on board at all.... This should help many here on the board, as I recall another post from member who could not afford to buy anything for a while, and wanted to trade some older ASE's in order to get some of the newer ones to complete his collection based on different years. He could sell some of the older ones that he has more than one example of, an turn that money into the new ASE's he needs....

I noticed they were sold out of several silver categories yesterday. When they start paying over spot for generic stuff? Then I'm really interested.

I wonder if the e-mail from APMEX will be the equivalent of The Shot Heard Around The World. Being one of the Major Dealers in the world and them running short of silver. Throwing a shock wave around the Planet with people going into panic mode thinking that Silver stocks are running that low. Just a question I think we are treading on completely new ground.

Yes and silver and gold have fell off the cliff today, dropping down below 46 an oz for silver and gold has fell to 1496.... Looks like APMEX knows the fall is coming and is gonna restock as much as possible until it starts back up again. If the past three months are an indication, I figure it to start is way back up in a day or two, which does not give them much time if it in fact does start going back up.......

Very interesting. Is it common or typical for people like APMEX to pay over spot like this?

They will buy them but you're not going to get over melt value. Commemorative S$1 melt at almost $36 right now so if you want to sell, give them a call.

Quote:Very interesting. Is it common or typical for people like APMEX to pay over spot like this? No, this is VERY atypical. Most bullion dealers sell for a premium above spot and then buy at some fixed amount or percentage below spot. This is the 1st time since about 1981 that I can recall any dealer buying above spot. They must be getting desperate for inventory! I have made 2 purchases from APMEX. One in late March and the other about 4 days ago. It's funny to be receiving an offer to buy back a shipment of coins that they haven't even shipped to me yet!

Good stuff Ed, you cleaned them out of ASE's lol.... And as far as the flux in silver price today, I know watching minute to minute is pointless and probably would drive one insane, esp for us with longer term plans, but the fact it was 2 cents away from 50, and fell as low as 44 today 12 hours later, makes me scratch my head as well. Six bucks swing seems like a whole lot for silver in one day, something fishy is going on....
