Need to see some good pictures of it to determine any kind of value.
It always cracks me up when people say what you just did. I'm referring to the part about an error/silver certificate/US note whatever being thought to be counterfeits. If someone wants to pass funny money you try to make it look identical to the real thing, not make it stand out like a sore thumb.

to CCF Linda.A scan or a photo would help alot. If it is miscut enough and it sounds like it is it would have a premium. You could sell it on e-Bay. John1

Welcome to CCF. I've only been here a couple of weeks and already consider the people on here to be some of the best there are. Glad to hear the police had enough sense to be able to tell it was real! Imagine if they had the same mindset as the ones who said it was counterfeit - ouch!

ok... I am having trouble uploading the photos from my files. and the police took the bill for 2 days,, what they did , I dont know other than it was very obvious the stripe was visible when holding it up to light.. I think they were just showing their " so called" authority in front of a crowd...very embarrasing 40 minutes and there were about 6 officers .... it was a bad experience . even handcuffed my 36 yr old son that was with me. no arrest were made just took the bill and told me they would call me if it was a legal bill ..they did,,, I picked it up at property room of station.

Series 1996 $50 notes were not released into circulation until October 1997..... prior to that, this 1993 $50 note was the most current and newest $50 note available to the public, and remained in widespread circulation for several years afterward.

Zee I think the confusion was probably from the fact that the note is an error note, or so I gather from the "miscut" part of the thread title. That's what I was making reference to in my first post about how people think an error is a counterfeit simply because it looks different.
lindantexas I would still love to see the note posted here. Usually the problem is the size of the file. If you can resize it to around 80k or so it will probably upload.

Most police know less about how to tell if a bill is genuine than the man on the street. I've seen more than one case where they lowered/ruined collector value of a note by doing something stupid to "test" it. If it took them two days, it's prolly because that's how long it took them to find an FBI agent with some knowledge. Hoping you can post an image, so we can see the miscut part.

I'm not trying to start any trouble and I know I shouldn't post this but I do want to comment on this thread. Police, Law Enforcement are trained to look for certain characteristics when it comes to possible counterfeit currency. Some thing tells me there is more to this story.
