The other day I happened to be viewing a part of my collection. The coins in question were I.C.C.S uncirculated Victorian dimes, many of which have awesome toning and the rest are lustrous. Now don't get me wrong, I don't ever clean my coins, or will I ever intend to, however, I wanted to see her reaction when I mentioned I would. My wife, who by the way has no interest in my Passion for coins. I don't know why I did this, but I wanted to see the reaction when I made the following statement, "I'm going to cut these toned coins out of their holders and clean them in Silvo polish.I think the value will go up when they are bright and shiny." Well the look on her face and the following statement she made really impressed me. "Oh my God, won't that ruin your coins and destroy the value"? "Why would you do something like that?" Now remember, my wife has no clue about coins, their value, etc., etc. and she came to their defence. WOW, there is hope! p.s.:What would your other half say? My wife even tries to talk me out of cracking coins out of holders to put them in an album.
Of course, she also asks "can I touch it" when I get a new coin just because she knows it drives me crazy!

My girlfriend has no interest in coins. But she respects my coin collecting hobby. I once asked her, "when we have children, I will try to let our children to collect coins too." She replied with a big "NO!" We will see what happens in the future.lol

My spouse knows about safe handling of coins, appreciates the toned collection far more than anything else I own. She says they have character and are no longer "discs of metal".
I have some nice (by numismatic standards) coins but her favourites are the rainbow toned Victoria 25 cent pieces, followed by the rainbow dollars.

My wife wants me to free all of my slabbed coins from their holders. She says they look like the video games at Walmart in oversized packaging sitting out of reach behind glass in a locked display case. She says if I know what the coins are,why keep them in the plastic holders? I tell her it makes them easier to sell. She replies, are coin collectors really that unaware of what they are buying? I then ask her if she thinks it might rain tonight and hope this subject doesn't come up again for a while.

My wife once threatened to dust all my coins for fingerprints if I didn't put them away (my office is a little cluttered)...she works in Forensic Identification at the RCMP. I can't imagine how tragic it would be to have tiny iron filings all over my coins.
But she still loves me :)

My wife has never payed any attention to my coins, until one day when I noticed her rummaging around for a coin to use to scratch a lottery ticket. I pulled a fifty cent piece with her birth year on it from my collection and told her to use this from now on ( one of my poorer grade spares). I'd like to say she hit the big one with it but of course she didn't, but she likes the idea of having a "lucky" coin now and she has developed whole new respect for my hobby.

I think it's a result of the Antiques Roadshow program - they've all seen that piece of furniture "This is a beautiful example, and would be worth $348,000, but, unfortunately, you've cleaned it up nicely, so would maybe fetch $475"!

My soon to be wife also collects (on a small scale) and often attends shows with me. We both know some of these are for the long run. She does not mind that I spend money on coins.

LOL, my GF looks at me in wonder at times. Particularly when I won my '23 cent in F-12 for $10 U.S. She didn't quite get that I finally now have a complete set, including the smaller varieties of Canadian cents, {complete for my goal}, from 1920-2009, so far. She doesn't get the thrill and satisfaction I derived from the few years it took me to accomplish my goal. Personally, I think she hoping I'd spend it on her at the time. ;)
