Just bought a bag of coins and found this gem in it , I'm debating on whether to send it off to PCGS or not, I'd love to hear your opinion on whether I should or not.

I missed out on a chance for a 20 cent piece years ago and I'm still disappointed I did not acquire it.

The mystery bag had just about everything you could think of.

I'll post pictures on a bit of it soon since I'd like some opinions on condition. It did have what I believe to be a AU Barber dime, a MS grade walking liberty (absolutely amazing luster and very few flaws that I could readily see). A great condition 1897 silver Philippine peso, a dozen or so liberty Seated dimes, a few 2 cent & 3 cents, along with a large cent and Half Cent (which has a hole through the bottom of it , as it seemed to have been used as a necklace at one time).

A friend of mine found out I was into coin collecting and gave me a price for the bag and I bought it.

I paid around $600 for the bag ;)

It looks problem free so I expect PCGS would grade it, probably around XF-45. I'd want to minimize cost by sending it at the Economy level which requires at least 5 coins. Let us know what happens!

That could be AU. Heritage auction has some that look much worse at AU58. Sold in the $500 range in 2010.

Great find.

Jaobler - What would be the best way to determine what other coins I have that I should send in?

I'm going to get a list tomorrow of everything that was in the bag I purchased. I know the Philippine Peso is in absolutely excellent condition along with the Walking Liberty half, however I'm a bit unsure on the Peso as they don't seem to be worth overly much on the market.

My goal is to sell off a few of these coins to make back my initial investment, then keep the rest.

I agree with the XF-45. These are tough in higher grades - this is a real find.

It might make AU but might not have enough luster remaining to push into that territory. Regardless, a super nice example.

Is it just me, or does the "Liberty" on the shield look a bit off?

Saw a very similar coin listed on a non coin related site. Problem is, this is an 1875 S.....not a Phili mint product.
