Wow has it been what seems forever since I have posted on here. Well its SUMMER I havent posted here on the site since about mid Winter and I'm sorry so many things going on but there slowly winding down. So anyway I recently bought a cash register from a guy and we've been talking since, real nice guy. I told him I was always looking for coins and silver and he said he had some he would sell. He emailed me the list and well I was supprised because from his words he doesn't sound like a collector. Anyway he sent me the list which is below and said make me an offer I can't refuse. Now this guy is somebody who just wants things gone, not a dealer. So I was wondering if anybody here could help me make him an apporiate offer. I don't want to lowball him but I'd like to make a little profit. Let me know what you guys think!
Thanks so much
-Andrew

If it was up to me I'd simply use a 4 to 5 year old Red Book by Whitman Publishing. Normally the prices in there are rather excessive so a 4 or 5 year old version would be a little on the accurate side for sale prices.
Now you would have to remember that those still would be the selling price by a dealer so pending on who your doing buisness with, go from there.
He is not a relative nor sounds like some close friend so you may never see or hear from him again anyway. So don't think of low balling him at all. Just an honest evaluated price. Lots of stuff there to consider.

I wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing I lowballed this guy. I dont own a Red Book from those years but I'll try doing a little online research. Anybody is welcomed to help!

try numismedia.com and take about 1/4 to 1/3 off that price and it should be a fair deal.

You can use NumisMedia. I consider them retail prices, so feel free to discount them accordingly.

eh, kind of. it takes the higher value between "estimated collector value" and bullion value. So if its a common 1964 dime, its very tied to Silver price. If its an MS CC Morgan dollar, its not. :D

And I would offer Melt for unknown conditions. Unless of course its a rare date.

There are a lot of coins there I wouldn't consider having any numismatic premium. For example #'s 3,5,10, 15 etc. Anything with a name for the set probably came from HSN & at best is worth melt. I'd go through & figure melt on everything that applies to & make an offer on those. If I wanted/needed the proof sets I'd base my offer on ebay prices. The rest I'd pass on. What percentage you deviate from melt, either higher or lower, is up to you.

The main problem with any total evaluation is the massive variety in what is there and a really good description. And too so much depends on if you really even want foreign coins or all US coins. I have no idea of what is ment by "Legend of _____" noted on some of the items. Without knowing the grades on many of the coins, that too is really to vague of a possible price guess work.
As noted you could find many of those items on Numismedia or even the PCGS web site or even ebay, but you would be just guessing since the grades are not noted. Remember a coin could go from a dollar to maybe a thousand dollars pending on a grade.
If this person wants to sell the entire list of items all at one time, I'd pass.
