I have a penny that has 2 different dates. They are both relief. Can someone alter a coin and have relief numbers without tearing up the coin?

Your coin is an engraved or punched cent, made outside the mint. If there's a corresponding flat side on the reverse, it's punched.

There are thousands of varieties, typically worth less than $1, because they can make more as long as they have the dies.

These one of a kind punches are post strike purposely designed for those who collect fancy coins.

Why are you folks posting pictures of counterstamped cents that have nothing to do with his question?

To the OP the best thing to do is post a picture and then we can tell you what is going on with your coin.
