Looks like a love token or similar alteration. A genuine 1875 cent had the reverse sanded down and then the new design was engraved. If you check the weight I expect the coin will be significantly lower than the standard 3.1 grams due to the metal that was removed from the reverse.

Such tokens are collected by specialists. The coin however is ruined as far as Indian Head cent collectors are concerned.

Love tokens are cool, so are hobo nickels which are similar. Do a Google search on them if you have some free time.

This is a prime example why not to purchase a coin on ebay without seeing BOTH sides of the coin!

You have a love token. When people had time on their hands they would carve out initials of their loved ones (usually) and give the token to them. Also, when they were parted from their loved ones they would do the same to the coin and keep it amongst their belongings to remind them of them. Many times holes were drilled into the coins so they could wear them as pendants around their necks.
Rest in Peace

I was just about to say, can you imagine if that was an 1877
Who cared what it was back then! It was just another cent to them.
