Thanks vanbroj! Yes, I will be completing my small cent collection now that I have the hardest parts out of the way. I don't think I will ever top this buy, unless I end up reselling the 1856 FE.

Murrelington: I purchased the 1856 Flying Eagle. So I will just work on the small cent collection. I don't think I will be able to afford another $8k coin soon or ever now that I have a kid and am down to a single income, so although I'd like to think I can complete all of them, it's not too realistic unless I sell other significant portion of my collection.

Anyways, once I have the FE in hand, I will start a new thread on it with a myriad of pictures from all angles. This coin will merit it's own photo album.

For now, this is what we have.

As tempting as that is murrelington, this one will likely remain in it's plastic prison. One exception may be in the unlikely case of it being an an S-3(which is widely considered a business strike), I would rather have it in a VF slab than a PR slab. Looking back at Heritage auctions, a few S-3s found there way into PR slabs....TPGs are inconsistent this way.

Are you going to try to resubmit it to see if it turns out to be a business strike?

So Johnny, now that you got the toughest one, are you going to collect all small cents from 1856 to 20xx ?

I'd only consider it if it's an S3.

Interested in FEC patterns?

Thanks Hambone, I'm broke for now as far as big purchases go.

That is the plan. I have the 1877 and 1909-s, but am missing most of the semi-key indians...and I have a complete set of Lincolns. Going for a complete small cent set.

That will be such an awesome set. I'm working on lincolns right now and it's pretty tough, well with my income. I can't imagine an entire small cent collection.

John,
We might complete our IHC Set at the same time...lol!
I have the 1877, most of the semi-keys, but still need that pesky 1909-S. Oh and I still need the 1856 FEC ;-)
Will more than likely trade or sell some inventory for that one :o

vermontensium,
the 1909 s Indian cents are rather coommon.
Not cheap , but common, if you lay in wait, and pounce at the right time, a good deal can be had on one.

WOW!!

I am speechless! I am without speech!

The 1856 has a mintage of 2,000 (according to my 2012 RedBook).

Johnny "Countdown"! You are my hero!
