Hopefully I did a good job. Dang! these things are small after looking at nothing but Morgans.

Looks like a great coin! I understand the size issue, I mainly collect 3CN and can not get over how big Morgan's are!

I have a hard time grading the Buffalo.Seems like there should be more detail in the hair,so they always look well traveled to me.Even when their MS state.

I agree, I even made the same comment once in another thread about the buffalo. I have seen some coins that are graded all the way up to MS-67 that look no better than a coin I would grade AU because of mushy details

I have the same problem with Peace dollars. They always look weak struck.I guess were just to spoiled by well struck Morgans.

I also agree with you 100% on that one, I feel Peace dollars are the hardest series to grade of all US coinage and have made my feelings known on that topic also. Not only are they just butt ugly (look like some manikin with their mouth open waiting on a fly to fly in)but their details are just non existent

Your 1938D/D buffalo is probably RPM#2 - probably the most common RPM in the buffalo series. They don't command much of a premium value because they are abundantly available. Still a die variety in its own right, but don't get your hopes up of being able to sell it for a high premium value because it's an RPM.

If you are looking for sharp lined Buffalo nickels, you will have to go all the way back to the original designed variety which James E. Fraser designed in the first place. It had such high relief that the mint said it was too hard on their dies and had it redesigned to what you normally see in 99.9% of the coins. A 1913 variety I is a coin of beauty and none can come close to comparing, even Morgans.
