Hello all.
It's a milestone day for me; my collection of current coins is now up to date!
In the 2.5 years I've been eagerly collecting coins, today's arrival of the previously missing 2006 P & D
Sacagawea dollars, my collection of current American coins is now up to date.
Since 1999, I was one of those that started with
State Quarters but didn't collect any anything else. However when I heard about the 2009
Lincoln Cent commemoratives that's what triggered my real interest coin collecting. I started early 2009 gathering all American and Canadian coins.
Often I focus on an individual series to gather and started with Lincoln cents, then
Jefferson nickels, and clad dimes and quarters. I'm up to date with all of them. The only exception are 4 key date Lincoln cents which are out of my league and doubt very much I'll get them. (09S, 09S VDB, 14D & 31S)
The clad
Washington quarter set is up to date. I never focused on gathering the Philly mint
State Quarters, but received all what was missing from my collection from an awesome CCF member when I placed an ad.
The JFK half dollar collection was up to date quite a while ago. The Eisenhower, Anthony, SAC &
Presidential dollar coins arrived when they did, and today with the arrival of the 2 I needed, it's up to date.
I've also been collecting older coins......
Indian Head cents, large cents, Buffalo &
Liberty nickels. I've managed to get almost all of them and just have some key dates remaining. I'm going to continue getting them as affordable coins become available.
Also, up to date on Canadian coins:
1920-2011 small cents
1922-2011 nickels
1937-2011 dimes
1967-2011 quarters
1967-2011 half dollars
1967-2011 Voyageur / loonies
1996-2011 toonies
------I'm still working on the 1859-1920 large cents and it's near completion. Don't think I want to go any further with Newfoundland coins as I have all the small cents and about 1/2 of the large cents.
I'm wondering what to focus on now. Mercury and silver
Roosevelt dimes? I have a handful but that's it. I would like to get the sets but with the price of silver they're expensive. They seem to be in the $3-4 range for a non-key date. If I wanted to focus on silver coins for investment value I was thinking of the
Franklin half dollar series as it looks easy and there would be fewer to get to complete the series. I don't have much interest in silver
Washington quarters, but sometime in the future that will probably change.
However since I'm up to date with current coins, silver may be my main option.
Thanks for letting me crow about this. For accomplishing this on a limited budget I'm somewhat proud of myself.
Ken
