These people need to make money somehow. Advertisement do cost grandly and actually in return, these people might be doing a good job in promoting numismatics, except not in the right price. I wonder how much advertising on TV cost each month.

I had it on yesterday for a bit. Same thing, except they were selling MS-64 Morgans from PCGS, 10 coin lot for $999. Same thing for a "lot" from NGC for the same price. As far as I could see when they did close-ups, they were all the "common" morgans with their value equal to the mint state number in the RedBook. ~$64. I would have seen this as a pretty cool deal about two months ago prior to joining here.....That's where they are making their money. They know full well that the collectors out there will not be buying these. They are relying on the people that are buying presents for collectors, or just have extra money that are uneducated on the topic. IMHO.

yep its the new collector they are after, the ones that say "thats so cool and if I buy those I will have a jump start on everyone else and I am just starting out" then the more and more they get educated they soon find that their 1000.00 investment has a resale value of about $600.00 at most. The coins aren't priceless they just aren't worth the price they had to pay for them and they would have to sit on them for many years to eve think of getting their money back and even longer to make a profit off of them. But I am sure that the buyers are as happy as a puppy with two peters as long as they only buy from them and don't ever branch out to get knowledge and they are just slinging these in safe deposit boxes for later dates

I agree with you scoutjim, I wish they were legit too. Hey, as long as we're wishing, we might as well wish for a world where all merchants (not just coin dealers) are honest and ask only fair prices. Let's include car dealers, contractors, medical providers, college tuition, home prices, electronics, oil. No need for greed or hunger, a brotherhood of man Imagine all the people sharing all the world -John Lennon Then again, maybe we should be careful what we wish for. Sorry if I got off topic. Peace

I am curious in the question of HSN being decieving which I agree they most likely are to whatever degree. Then why doesn't the federal trade commission shut them down and fine them being that they are so blantant. I suppose not enough people that have purchased them have realized what they bought yet and have turned in complaints. https://www.ftc.govSeems that the FTC should advertise on TV and the newspapers more about the scams that go on. Maybe alot of the coin forums should post a link to the FTC for complaints and awareness of the coin scam world. So why doesn't legite coin companies put links to the FTC on their sites and in their adverstising with the quote from below. Seems if they run a legite company they wouldn't have anything to hide from the FTC and welcome people to be protected. (QUOTE)Individuals who wish to file a complaint about the business practices of a particular company or entity, or allegations of identity theft, deceptive advertising practices or consumer fraud should file a complaint with the FTC Bureau of Consumer Protection. https://www.ftc.gov

I have no problem with a company making a profit, hey, that's what free commerce is about. What I do have a problem with is when they use words like very rare, hard to find, only we have these, you can't find these anywhere else at this price (which I guess is true, but not the way they ment it. ).When all those statements are lies to sucker people in.Then I consider that false advertizing and a scam. One thing else.On all the other HSN selling formats, buyers are allowed to call in and make "testimonials" about the products they have purchased in the past and ask questions about the current selling item, but on the coin shows you are never allowed to...Gee,I wonder why that is.Afraid someone might call bull---- on them?

I was watching the same show last night. The one that I liked is that they were advertising uncirculated rolls of the Presidential dollars. It was 20 coins in a square coin tube and the kicker was that the roll was graded by ICG as all the coins in the tube being MS-63 or higher. What next?

HSN, the coinvault, and all the others like them prey on the uninformed and the old. How many elderly have lost a fortune buying into their hype, only to learn when they go to cash in they got pennies on the dollar. Slimeballs. If you listen to these guys, they are very careful with what they say (I'm sure their lawyers have some input), and they don't technically break any laws.........just bend them a little. Our hobby would be a lot better off without them.

There has to be input from their lawyers. They walk the line when it comes to being legit or a fraud. In a perfect world, there would be a disclaimer stating that the coins being sold on HSN are marked up so high, that you may never see a profit on the coins you purchased.
