Some of the collections listed are absolutely fabulous.

I began collecting coins three years ago this month - started with the State Quarters, and have gone on from there. I tend to buy a Dansco album after I've accumulated a couple dozen of a certain coin, and use the album as my guide - if it's got a hole, find a coin for it. I've been able to complete a few sets using that system.

Completed:

Lincoln Memorial Cents (1959 - Date)
Flying Eagle cents (1857 - 1858)
Jefferson nickels (1938 - Date)
Roosevelt dimes (1946 - Date)
Mercury dimes (1916 - 1945)
Statehood Quarters (1999 - Date)
Washington quarters (1932 - 1998)
Kennedy half dollars (1964 - Date)
Franklin half dollars (1948 - 1963)
Walking Liberty half dollars (1916 -1947)
Presidential dollars (2007 - Date - BU&PF))
Sacagawea dollars (2000 - Date - BU&PF)
American Silver Eagles (1986 - Date - BU&PF)
Susan B. Anthony dollars (1979 - 1981 & 1999 BU&PF)
Eisenhower dollars (1971 - 1978 BU&PF)

Incomplete albums:

Lincoln Wheat Cents (1909 - 1958 - need 5)
Indian Head cents (1859 - 1909 - need 2)
Buffalo nickels (1913 - 1938 - need 1)
Liberty Head Nickels (1883 - 1912 - need 3)
Barber dimes (1892 - 1916 - need 5)
Standing Liberty quarters (1917 - 1930 - need 10)
Barber quarters (1892 - 1916 - only have about half of them)
Barber half dollars (1892 - 1915 - need 4)
Peace dollars (1921 - 1935 - need 1)
Morgan dollars (1878 - 1921 - need 12)
Dansco Type album-7070 - need 2 Seated Liberty dollars to complete

I've a smattering of other coins, but not enough of each to warrant buying an album for them. My little collection won't seem like much to the old seasoned veteran collectors with years and years of experience under their belts, and to those who've been at this hobby for less time than I, it may seem impressive, but, however you view it, it's been alot of fun for me, and I hope I have many years of collecting in my future.

The last three posts on this topic, preceding this one, make me wish I hadn't even replied. It makes me realize how insignificant my collecting is after too many starting over episodes. I wish I had all those early coin sets back and had bought the keys before prices went astronomically high. Words of advice to beginning collectors, hang on to those coins even if your interest flags. They will be worth so much more in the future and you may not be able to afford to replace them when you get interested in collecting again. I am sure glad the 7070 came along. Completing that gave me some satisfaction and a great cross section of US coin history, without the high costs of some early sets with keys.
I still plan to complete the Lincoln and Buffalo nickel sets with the few keys I need, and some day completing the 7070 gold page. Maybe when the recession gets a lot deeper.

WOW these are some awesome collections. My collections are all partially done. The thing is I will be collecting one type coin, then I seem to lose focus and move to another.

bigcartwheels - nothing wrong with moving around from one set to another in this hobby. I find myself doing it all the time - doesn't seem all that long ago I found my interest waning, and then I read about the 7070 album here on the forum - regenerated my interest.
Often I will find that my pockets aren't deep enough to finish a particular set, and I move on to another. Eventually the coin(s) I need to finish the set I put aside will come along at a price I can afford.
I think the key to this amazing hobby is to keep it fun and stress-free. There are so many ways to collect that there is no set pattern - at least, not for me. Collect whatever coins bring you the most pleasure...right now - tomorrow it might be something different, but that's okay - keep it enjoyable.

littleboy - you must bear in mind that the majority of my coins (less than 1800) are in circulated condition, and the only proof coins I have collected have been the dollar series from 1971 thru 2008. Also, most of my key date coins are in the lower grade range, but that's okay with me...I'm havin' big fun - nothing like the thrill of puting that last coin in that last hole - short lived, but a thrill nonetheless. I do upgrade occasionally, but I don't concentrate on it all that much - figure I can do that when I get old (I'm only 60 this year - still a pup).

I am in ahh of some of the sets you guys have completed. I've been at it for not even a year, although I'm making very good progress, I can slow down some knowing I have many more years ahead of me. Of course, I'm working on like 10 different sets right now lol!

I am almost afraid to check what is left after my jerk neighbor went through my coins. My completed sets (or close):

United States Philippine mintage (proof only) 1903-1908 missing 3, missing 5 to make all uncirculated.

Walking Liberty halves, need just a few (afraid to look)

Franklins full set of uncirculated
