Hello everyone,
I'm new here and I have to admit that I have little to no interest in coins, however, a friend of my does and ask me to see if I could help her with identifying a coin. She sent me three pictures. Unfortunately they aren't the best quality but I can tell you a few things about it. I have a feeling this "coin" may be a token or medal of some sort since it doesn't have the words "UNITED STATES" on it. As you can see, the coin is quite a bit larger than a quarter, appears to be gold, and is much thicker. On the back, it looks exactly as a Pennsylvania State Quarter with all included denotations. On the front, there is a close up of the statue of liberty with the word "LIBERTY". The coin year is 1999. Any and all help would be much appreciated.

Still have been unable to identify this coin/medal/token. It's strange, really. Two very familiar images yet no one seems to know what it is. I've posted on several forums. Nada. I'm feeling discouraged.

I will ask her the weight but I doubt she has a scale that can measure such a small weight. She told me "It's very heavy" that's the best I could get. I'll ask though and get back to you guys. She said she literally "found" it in Maryland, if that happens to be any significance. Given the exchange of coins from hand to hand, I doubt it is though. Good day fellas :)

She says her mother says its a commemorative coin. Nothing else. Says it's worth its weight in gold so I'm guessing it's just that, gold. Thanks for the help guys. I wish I could give you more information on it.

Check all over to see if there's any small writing such as .999 or equivalent. There's no way that any company would make such a big heavy gold coin without marking it as such.

However it's entirely likely that a company would make some schlock out of a base metal, plate it with $0.30 worth of gold, and sell it to unknowing consumers for a profit.

Definitely not a US Mint product, so not a 'coin'. Possibly a bullion 'round' but unlikely.
