Searched 290 in halves the other day and found a 74-S proof. Today, just for the heck of it, I checked out $10 worth of pennies from my local CU - got 3 50's wheaties, a couple of BU 60's and early 70', and a canadian 1970. I remember (7-8 years ago) when I seemed to find nearly a wheatie a roll - have we really taken that many out of circ?

Ya, I search boxes of pennies at a time and only find 6-12 wheat pennies per box. Oldest I've found so far is a 1936.

Searched through 2 boxes of halfs today. Found the following: one 2003 P three 2003 D one 2004 P one 2004 D two 2006 D one 2007 P
I took a total of $6 out of the two boxes and went to the local Wells Fargo to have them deposited. I wrote out the deposit slip with $994 on it because I knew there was $994 there. They counted $986. Neadless to day I'm a little mad right now. Credit Union next time. Ty

Well I've been on vacation for the past week and made it a point to stop into every bank I saw to see if they had halves. This is what I discovered at the little podunk town banks in western Michigan: 1. most banks dont have coin sorters (2 banks within a 25 mile radius did) 2. this means you must roll them up in order to return them 3. tellers are more friendly and customer minded in small towns compared to large cities for the most part (three tellers helped me roll over $500 dollars worth of halves--they offered, I was going to bring them home and roll them. 4. the problem with rolling them yourself and returning them is you search alot of rolls that have been searched already 5. when you roll your own you can replace a couple of halves with Peso's and noone will know (I found two Peso's in one roll-the bank said bring them back and they will replace them) 6. somehow you still find 90% and 40% halves in searched rolls all in all I didn't do to bad since almost everything I searched had already been searched or appeared to be searched. My best roll contained six 40%, two 90% JFK, and one Franklin. I've got another $1000 on order from a bank. I just hope they dont give me boxes that have been searched like last time.

you're lucky..I haven't found silver in months, and I've searched at least 8-10 boxes. :( I will start back up soon though as my bro just hooked me up with about 5000 wrappers.

I've been waiting anxiously for my first box of halves to arrive. The bank manager said she was having difficulty getting them. Their coin orders come in on Mondays and Thursdays. She's supposed to give me a call when they get here. We'll see. I'll give her until tomorrow afternoon before I start nagging her.
I know what you mean about the small town banks being better. The credit union mentioned above is in a larger city and the tellers are so unfriendly. They have another bank, closer to home, and it's tons better there. I think I'll be ordering my halves from them from now on!

Well I stopped at my local bank today to cash a check and to see if they had anything. The teller always told me at the end of the month is when all the stores normally bring in their "odd" money. She had 3 $2 bills, a dozen dollar coins (2 SBAs, 3 Washington, rest Sacs), and 5.50 in halves. Only keeper was a 2006 half. She also pulled out a Mexican $2 peso from a roll of nickles.
The small town and/or local owned banks are the best for customer service. Is how they set the bank apart from the national banks. I only deal with the local bank now, and turn in all my coins to the national bank. The teller I always talk to is even keeping an eye out for star notes for me now. If I wasn't married and she wasn't I'd almost have to take her out on a date :P

LOL, the ole date the teller to get good coins move....works everytime! :) I rolled up a few bucks in coins just to give me an excuse to walk into the bank today before I leave for Mexico. I mainly stop at two branches, and both have great customer service, and they are BOAs.
Arthrene, my first box took a while too b/c I honestly think they forgot, and I kindly called a few days later to check the status. Then we worked out a deal to get one a week, and they've satisfied everything I've requested.

Back in 2004 while out in California on business I visited my bank in a very small town there, until that time I had never thought about asking if they had out of the ordinary coins. The teller responded, "Let me check, I thought I saw something the other day that has been here awhile" of course by then my heart was beating! "These have been here probably 25+ years", as she pulls out four rolls of dollar coins. I really hoped there would be some Morgans or Peaces, but I was happy just getting four rolls of Ikes.
More recently I have been searching cent boxes, I come up with anywhere from 10-29 wheats in a box of 2500 cents. My earliest in the last year has been a 1910, but 1918-1919 are common. The best was a 1919-S, but the more unusual was a 1981-S which was a circulated proof that had been broken out of a proof set and spent. I have also gotten €.02 coins, mainly from Germany and France, a Bermuda cent, Canadian cents back into the 1930's etc.
Discussing returning to the bank, my bank here merged with another and is losing the coin machines. So I am rather hesitant to continue searching cents if I have to re-roll them now.

You guys who have the coin counting machines are spoiled. I have to re-roll everything I take back. I'd be going through at least 5 times the number of coins if I could just dump them into a coin machine!

I wouldn't be able to keep up without a slew of branches with change counters. I feel awkard bringing in more than $2000 at a time.
Although, it's time for me to start looking for another safe to keep everything I've been finding this year. It seems that alot of people either got ripped off or had a brain fart and just cashed in all their collections at face value. My gain I guess.

No luck today. Bank didn't call and I had last minute errands to run so I didn't get to call them either. I'm starting to think they forgot too or the bank manager ordered them wrong. Their coin orders come in twice a week and I really don't think it should be this hard for her to get them. I will be giving her another kindly reminder tomorrow for sure.
