Arthene--actually I think Pastor gets more of the dots than me. I had a couple of boxes that contained a bunch of halves that looked like someone took a sharpie and outlined the inside edge of the paper on the end of the roll. The coin had a thick black mark all the way around it about 1/8" in from the edge. It seems like the silver is becoming more and more scarce around here.

I've been searching penny boxes for a while now and I started keeping track of all of the bits that I find for the last 10 boxes. I keep track of any canadian pennies, any other foreign cents, any non-pennies ( in my case dimes ), 1960 pennies, wheat pennies and s-mint pennies. Those are the things I chose to look for. So out of the last ten boxes I have averaged per box: 3.9 canadian 0.8 other foreign cents 0.7 non-pennies 9.4 wheats 3.9 1960 pennies (doesn't matter if p or d) 4.6 s-mint
Doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things, I was just wanting to know what my finding rate is. Overall, I keep just less than 1 percent of the total pennies. The rest go back into circulation. BTW, the oldest wheat I found was a 1910s. It was pretty worn, but I like it anyway.

Hey Tony, what's up with the 1960 pennies and the s-mint pennies?

You know you've searched a lot of rolls when your 8 year old daughter spots a half dollar proof on the end of the roll

light week: $1000 searched; 3 40%, 1 Franklin, 2 proofs.
The 73-S proof was a stunner and the 87-S has been through the mill.
Since June 2007 halves searched = $8470 Walkers = 20 Franklins = 29 90% Kennedy = 25 40% Kennedy = 59 Proof = 14 (72, 73, 76, 81x2, 82, 85, 87x2, 91, 95, 02x2, 04) Commemorative = 1

Charlie, I was born in 1960 so I like all 1960 coins, nothing more important than that. The s-mint pennies are pretty uncommon here in Florida so I keep them as well. If they were more common, I'd probably ignore them. That is all.

I have decided I love coin counting machines and the dummies that use them. I went to return my reject halves today and once again the reject tray contained gold, er... silver. Four silver quarters: 1942, 1948-S, 1954-S, and 1959, all in F-VF condition. Oh yeah... and they're free!

I went to pick up 3 boxes of halves yesterday. I asked the teller if he had any other loose halves. He went around and picked up 7 of them. They included a 1999, 2002, 2003, 2005 proofs!
The three boxes weren't so great. I got two more proofs, 3 - 40%, 2003P, and 2005D. Not much silver, but the most NCLT's I've every had!
I think I'm going to call the set done when I get all 1964 - 2001 (including proofs) out of circulation. I've found 26 proofs in the last two/three years.

Got 2 half boxes today - one was a skunk, the other had 4 64's, 1 67, 1 Ben, 1 Gold Plated, and 1 82-s proof. Kinda made up for the first box, anyway...

I just recently started looking through rolls myself and started with pennies and nickels. I found a few wheat's and 3-1941 nickels and 1 1942 nickel. After reading about the silver finds in the halves I started to pick up a few rolls when I had time. I would pick up 2 rolls look through them and then cash them in at another bank. At one of the first banks they did not have any rolls but I was able to get $20 loose coins. When the teller came back with them she says, look here is a silver one, it was a 1968-D. Later that day I cleaned out another bank of $12.50 worth and found a 1967 half. It gets better when I get home that night.
I tell my wife about what I am doing and she mentions that she has some old coins that her Dad gave her. Now I remember her saying once that she had some silver quarters so that is what I expect to see. Well she had the 2 silver quarters, a 1945 and a 1953, but than she pulls out a 1942 Standing Liberty half dollar. A real nice looking coin, boy was I surprised.

I found my first 50¢ blank planchet this week. I also found my first 1938 Jefferson (still looking for that 1950D). Other than that, it's been a pretty dry few weeks for me.

Today I went back to the bank that I got the 1968-D and asked if they had any more. Well the teller went into the back room and brought out all they had, $20 in loose halves from their counter. Well I took them and looking through them found 2 more 40%, 1967 Kennedy's. The banks I am hitting are in the town I work in and I can not wait till Saturday as I can hit the banks in the town I live.
