Yesterday's rolls produced two good examples of "junk silver":

I guess they can't all be gems!

Hi All,
You know I search through rolls. All kinds of rolls.

Finds have included many Biggies. Big 1972 DDO plus most of the minor ones.
The 1983 DDR, 1995 DDO, 1997 DDO, 1982 DDO, 1984 D DDO, and many others.

I've found loads of silver, wheat cents, Liberty nickels, Buffalo nickels, Indian cents and so on.

I've made new discoveries on 1972 S cents, 1986 cents, 1989 cents and a few others.

Everything you can imagine turns up if you look long enough.

The most recent biggie was a 1937 D 3-legged Buffalo nickel.

It can be tedious but it's fun and it does have it's rewards.

Have Fun,
Bill

Bill, that three-legger is simply amazing! I would bet that none have been "found in rolls" in 30 or more years. Congrats!

As many of you know, I've been addicted to Nickels for about a month now. I've managed to find 9 Buffalos in that time, including a 1913 non-raised early this week. I've also pulled about two dozen War Nickels. And just today, about an hour ago, I got a 1946s Lincoln from a customer at my job.

Since I feel I was lucky and am indeed happy about it, I thought I would pass along my great "find" from a couple of years ago:

While my wife was employed at a bank, they found a box of rolled Kennedy half dollars in the back of the vault. The bank decided to let employees have them at face value if they wanted. There was only a few hundred dollars worth but because of lack of interest I was able to pick up 11 rolls of 1964 halves that had been in the vault since 1964 and in original rolls. I have never opened a roll but have been able to look at what little bit you can see at the roll end...uncirculated with a little toning due to being at the end of the rolls, and 11 rolls for $110!

I think this was a cool find. :)

I have been reading this forum for a while now and decided I would post my latest finds from a box of pennies.

5 canadian
18 wheat
41 (2)
44, 44D
45
49
52 (2)
53D
55
56D (2)
57, 57D (2)
58D, 58 (2)

While I was searching this box I realized that I have never found a proof penny although I have found proof nickels and halfs.
Does anyone out there find any proof pennies in circulation?

Not yet, but I did find one of those cent size coins that come with mint cents. The ones that are stamped with a big P or D showning which mint's coins are in the package.

Just a couple weeks ago I was going through my change jar and I found a '71-S cent and a '72-S cent. I was a bit suprised to find them there.

Those are probably not proofs. The San Francisco mint made business strike Lincolns from 1968 to 1974, that is, 1968-S to 1974-S found in circulation are most likely not proofs.

I have done some light searching. Out of 12 penny rolls and 1 nickel roll, I found 1 1952 wheatie, about 70 au/bu late 90s to today and about 22 potential errors. I have to get a good loupe to do further investigation. I have a box of pennies on order and should get them next week. As for the nickel roll, I kept 6 of the Lewis & Clarks.

I also got a hold of a roll of halves and got a JFK Bi-cen and an AU 1997-D. I live in an area with a bunch of local banks in 3 small towns. I have a good feeling there isn't many hunters around. I'll post my finds when I get them.
