Well, if everyone assumes this will be a "high-mintage" Set and sits this one out, we might have something here after all. Quote: (The 2012-S) will be the first "routine" reverse proof and make the 2011-P look VERY, VERY good. But we'll finally have an "affordable" Reverse Proof ASE that will be perfect for our Dansco 7070's.

The 2006 and 2011 sets all had a limited number of mintage, with this set open on mintage I don't feel it would be an "investment" opportunity but a way to get a reverse proof (if you don't have one) or just more coins to add to your ASE sets.

Quote:This just came in my mail: http://www.coinnews.net/2012/04/27/..n-proof-set/Minted to meet demand - orders taken for 4 weeks only - no household limits... So now what? Worth it as an investment piece? The 2006's went up in price. ..That was referred to on page 2 of this thread. ..2006's had a limited mintage of 250,000. Different beast here...it could be double or triple the mintage of 2006

Quote: I'm also dreading what nonsense will be foisted upon us by the TPGs this time around. Will they require that sets be sent in unopened packages in order to get the special "75th anniversary" label? Will they have special "first strike" designations for an extra fee? Will you get a special letter signed by a former mint official for an extra fee? 1) since these two coins can only be obtained as part of the set just the coins will be needed. 2) since it is a "mint to demand" issue of course they will have 1st strike as a designation like any other product 3) don't know about a letter and I am not interested in one 4) the article referred to in the post above quotes a Mint official as saying that it is NOT an Anniversary set so who knows what will be on the label.

Quote: Do you really think the mintage will be low? Really? I think it is a given that there will be MANY orders for this set even with the assumed high mintage.
Another way you can approach it is order what you want for yourself and also place and order for "extras". You can always cancel the "extras" order before they ship. That way you are covered in case the "mint to demand" is a smokescreen for an already determined limit. My guess is that no the mintage will not be low, but at the same time the people who would be buying it for an investment only and others may be turned off by the fact that it is an unlimited mintage for such a long time. The unlimited mintage definitely takes away from some of the specialness which could turn a lot of people off. That would be an interesting fact if the mint was using that as a smoke screen, at the same time I doubt it though as they would look even worse if thousands of people complained when they couldnt get an unlimited mintage set

I doubt the TPG's will require sealed mint boxes to be sent. The coins will carry the "S" mintmark, which is all the proof of origin that would be needed.

"How popular will the American Eagle San Francisco two-coin silver proof set be when it goes on sale June 7? Just check the "sales odometer." "In an effort to publicly share the rate of sales of what we expect to be a very popular product, there will be a sales odometer placed on the U.S. Mint's website ordering page to track daily sales of the set," said Tom Jurkowsky, Mint public affairs director." They are marketing it well. They just see $ signs is all, and throwing everyone a bone. It seems many will jump on it and be in line for milk, bread, and eggs as the big storm approaches. Most of these will be dealers just trying to make a buck. All these commemorative coins, the mint sounds like a a young women, with her.. 30 day anniversary, 3 month ,6 month,1 year, honey its out 116 week anniversary!.

I wonder how they're going to ship? Any guesses? I would hope that they would not wait until after the 4-week buying window to start shipping.
My strategy will be to order 2 sets right away, then buy more at the end if the mintage looks good. (low)

I would guess that they will mint enough for the 1st round of orders...probably 300-500k and ship those normally. After those are depleted then they will mint an additional supply to cover the remaining orders. Most likely these will ship much later than the first group.

Yeah if they don't limit it I will only buy one, as I buy about every silver product the mint offers.
The honest truth is regardless of the mintage the US Mint makes fantastic products and I will be glad to own another.

Here some info from two different articles on Coin News Blog:
<< In an attempt to avoid the problems of the past, the U.S. Mint will take pre-orders for the set and strike as many as collectors purchase. The U.S. Mint is likely to limit the number of sets sold during the pre-sale period, but there will be no limits on the number of sets produced. >>
<< The Mint will be offering the sets for sale during a period of only four weeks from June 7, 2012 to July 5, 2012. During this time, there will be no household limits and no maximum mintage. The mintage of the coins will be determined based on orders received during the period. >>

Quote: So basically be prepared for a final number in the millions Well that may be a BIT high. These are not $30 mint sets. The $120 or so price will limit the normal people. I would venture a guess at 800-900k which, as I said before, would be FANTASTIC for the 2011 RP's out there.
