Agreed with Shutter. Should only the RPs have the Annie label, thats not a set if you only have it on 1 coin.

The label designs can really enhance some of the coins as well. The State Quarter labels with the states flag on it look great to me and add to the overall presentation.

morgans dad, Thanks.

Clair,
I had to think a bit about your explanation. It still doesn't make sense to me. I see little difference between entombing a coin in a round capsule or sealing it in a rectangular slab. The big differences are (a) slabbing cost money, (b) slabs are easier to store, and (c) slabbed coins are more marketable. For the most part, you'll be looking at it trough a piece of plastic anyway. Also this being a bullion coin, you won't have the benefit of holding it in OGP (not even very simple that the US Mint favors). In the scenario you suggested, you are paying the cost of slabbing and then some, only to liberate it. As you said, you have no plans to sell them so you don't care about resale, but it's still value. Also, if someone robs you, there is a chance the slabbed coin could be tracked down.

I would also cancel the order given he waited till the last minute to buy them. He won't be charged till they ship them so he out of pocket no actual money. But then again if you have the time cherry pick the 70's and submit them to PCGS then sell the second's on ebay. Might be able to get a 20% return but it will take some work. I personally would just cancel the order.

LX, I regularly take my coins out of their capsules when I am examining them and always when photographing them. With the photographs and scans I take, I could identify virtually any of my coins if they were recovered after being stolen. For the most part, buying slabbed coins does not mean paying for the slab. Many coins, especially moderns, cost no more slabbed and graded than they would raw. When buying at auction, I try to pay no more than Numismedia wholesale for slabbed coins but for the most part, I pay only what I think a given coin is worth, whether or not that amount matches any book value. I don't normally buy coins that I can't grade from the images provided. In terms of storing, only the coins in their capsules go into the safes, the rest of the OGP (if I have it) gets stored in less secure places. Just like some prefer slabs, I prefer raw coins, it really is that simple.

I tend to try and stay within range of listed values, and will stay near it for coins that are readily available but some of the coins I'm after have very low slabbed 70 populations and dont appear very often. In these cases you can throw listed values out the window.

That said I still will not pay some insane amount that you see from time to time. But I will go over value if I am in love with the coin. Pricing coins is pretty hard to do, at best you can get ballpark figures imo

It's not for a coin, but this guy is asking $9K for a $100 camera. He has other similar deals.

Eng - sorry to hear this.

Does everyone here think these are really just low quality compared to other years or is it TPG politics?

I won't be getting mine until late since I cancelled my early order to add more to it and ordered on the last day. I hope I don't end up with junk.

I think theres just a lot of low quality ones going out the door. I've seen some of the Proof ones in the coins and currency set that look like someone just sat there intentionally scratching them before they placed them in the set.

There are some really beautiful looking ones, but they arent as abundant as usual
