The reason why the U.S. mint is charging bigger premuims is because they need money for the Iraqi war. Dont believe me here is a proven fact
- The contractors who are in a Iraq building and repairing buildings and roads and vesicles are taking money from the gov't my cousin who went to Iraq worked for one of these companies and told me how they charge 48 dollars the gov't 48 dollars a plate and 1 dollar for a water or soda. But my cousin isn't paying and neither is the company it's the gov't paying the company for the food because the company is apparently is their out of their own expense so the gov't pays for what ever it needs. So of course the company takes advantage and charge ridicules prices

Well, those banks in Illinois and Michigan aren't alone. Mine here in Wyoming said 'NO' they were not planning on haveing any of the new dollars. Said I was the only customer who had even ask about them and I had to admit to them that I would not be collecting any for myself. Might spend a couple if I had them, but no thanks I'm not starting another series of loosers with these reduced size dollars they make now days.

Just called our biggest bank here in Oklahoma which I have an account at and they aren't planning on having the Presidential dollars tomorrow. Everyone I spoke with didn't know anything about them and asked several other people while on the phone and none of them even heard of a Presidential dollar. So, looks like some people don't have any choice but to buy from the mint if a whole roll is wanted.

I just went to a US BAnk branch to pay a bill. I asked them and they have them and will be ready to give out starting tomorrow they said they can't give them out yet but they have them. and I called my 2nd bank Farmers and Merchants and they said they would have. I ma not sure if they will have them tomorrow or not but I know they will have them. I am planing on just getting 3 rolls though 1 for me to put set together 1 to trade adn my boss said he would like on to put away. he is not a collector but he see how the old State Quarter are selling adn though might as well spend 20 dollar and see what happens in a few year. Also when they deside to get raid of the Paper dollar since they made so many coin dollar adn deside they want to save hundreds of million they loss from making paper money then the 2007 dollar migh care a little more demind for people to try to get. Just my opion. But I know I will be able to get a few rolls close to work. I would offer to get rolls for other but sorry the funds are not there for me to do that. But I might be able to get a 3rd roll for myself and sell them at face plus shipping for those who can not get them in there area. but I am also not sure if the banks will put a limit on the number you can get the first few days. so I don't want to make this offer yet untill I know I can get as mainy as I want.

Tomorrow is the big day. Only my credit union manager says there will be Presidential dollars available. Three banks in our town evidentally aren't buying in. I'll pay the CU a visit bright and early, and we will see.

The mint site is working now but very very slowly. Just ordered my proof set of the pres dollars.
Also no problems getting pres dollar rolls from our local banks, been to 3 different ones so far and they all were happy to sell rolls!!

Dry Creek:
How did you order "Just ordered my proof set of the pres dollars" I do not see them on the US Mint web site; & the upcoming products page states "Spring United States Mint Presidential $1 Coin Proof Set"
Do you have the US Mint link?
Thanks, Ron (ronaldb112)

Are these coins going to tarnish and get dirty looking like the Sacs do?

Yes, same metal composition as the Sacs $1, the same reactive alloy.

According to the mint these coins will be specailly treated to prevent tarnishing.

The big question to me is, what are we going to call these? " Presidential dollars" is just too formal. I like "Ikes" for Eisenhower dollars and "Suzie Bs" for SBAs. I favor "Weegies" for Sacagawea dollars (still waiting for that one to catch on!). Maybe "Prezzies" would work for the new coins, or "Denties". Since they're probably going to turn spotty and dark like the Sacagaweas, maybe "Brownies" would be appropriate.

Dockwalliper: You were right, the "Tarnish: Some participants noted that tarnish on the Sacagawea dollar made it difficult to quickly identify the coin. The United States Mint noted that the Presidential $1 Coin will have a tarnish-resistant coating. " But, I have to check again. & see what type of coating & it longevity.
