Flash forward to 2028. It's the 150th anniversary of the first Morgan dollar. You issue 2028 dated Morgan dollars. Now here's where it really gets interesting. You load up a coin press in a semi and drive it to Carson City, Nevada and New Orleans, Louisiana so that you could legitimately issue the dollars with the CC and O mintmark! How many people do you think would line up to buy a proof CC mint marked Morgan dollar. I'm not sure if it's possible to load up a modern coin press in a semi, and if not, I guess my idea is down the tubes, but I'd think there's way somehow.
Expanding on this idiocy, how about they issue a new State Quarters set? They could do famous people from each state. The semi with the coin press would then drive to that state and park at an appropriate city (capital maybe, or city relevant to the person honored) and issue coins with an entirely new mintmark! Think of the revenue!! Not sure how they'd get the semi to Hawaii, or where they could park to get that elusive "Z" mintmark.
Rest in Peace

Make them silver bullion and double your sales. There are lots of collector's of "special" bullion coins.

Well if the US mint is going to do this I'm sure they would figure a way to goof it up as they did the 2016 Gold Centennial coins. They are still trying to sell the Standing Liberty quarter.

I suspect Daniel Carr is already thinking of something similar...

(I might buy those if they were silver bullion and reasonably cheap. Can't afford gold, however, or I would've bought one of the 2016 centennial coins already.)

People wouldn't be willing to pay what they would have to charge just to break even with that kind of added expense

It is a crazy idea, but I do find it interesting. It might be fun to see what happens in eleven years.
