These are 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" holders. The 2 x 2s are 20 to a page, and these are 30 per page, which is great for dimes and cents. The collection is really shaping up. I know the last few are the toughest ... 16-D aside, but I never thought I'd score an AU details 1921-P in a set like this.

Right you are!
I should have known better, great score on that 21-P. I been looking for other 21's in AU, but that 16-D will cost $8-10K in those grades.

The best part is that since I sold off the 21-P that this one replaced and the 1925-P that this one replaced, I've more than recovered my investment, and have better specimens for those slots. The rest of the set is now mine for free, plus I got a little jingle to boot.

I got the 1928 dime in today... and I figured it wouldn't be the "D" ... but it turned out to be neither the "D" nor the "P" issue. What I got was a cleaned 1928-S. It was real small change, so I'll just stash it for now. The reason I say I wasn't expecting the Denver issue, is because I went back and looked at the other listings for Mercs that he had running, and found the exact same reverse picture in a listing for a 44-D. I reasoned that the mint mark looked more like a 44 since the 28's "D" mint mark was small. That's why I didn't expect the Denver issue. I had no reason to expect the "S" ... since it wasn't even part of the discussion. That's one real confused dealer. Maybe even more confused than I am. I've been looking and looking. Not many sets that are going to help at this stage of the game. between that lot I got from Rick Snow and the last set I bought, there are few needs, and a set that will upgrade one or two of only 6 coins is going to make me think twice about pulling the trigger, I may be done "flippin" sets and might have to resort to buying a few more singles. This was an unlikely way to build a collection this nice ... though it's not perfect, its getting to be pretty darn nice. Point is ... that with a few hundred dollars, a lot of diligence, some luck, and a willingness to sell as well as buy, you can build a pretty nice collection of coins, if you're willing to take a few years to do it. This strategy worked well for the Mercury dime series. I don't know if it would work as well with a series that's less popular. It probably wouldn't. For the Mercury dimes, it was like the ultimate "self licking ice cream cone". Chance

Having just said there weren't going to be any more sets to aid me in my quest, I spied one last night and bought it this morning....for just one coin. Fortunately, it was a very partial set ... just 28 coins. But ... the one coin that showed up in the set, a nice AU 1928-D. I couldn't buy an AU 28-D for what I paid for the set, so I'll toss the other 27 into a tube to complete a roll, and move those that way.
Witha that addition, every coin from 1927 to 1945 has full or nearly full mint luater. Only 5 selections on page 1 1916-1927-P are glaringly in need of upgrade. Guess I better keep on as before ... looking at sets and singles too.

I just got finished shopping Italy, Germany, and the UK ( ebay sites)... and while there are some good deals, there's nothing that I "need", and nothing I could make real hay with as in the case of the 2 coins from England that started this whole thing up again. Chance

I'll betcha I got a bunch of bonus coins in the set I bought yesterday ... the one with the 28-D in it. It was listed as having 28 coins in the folder. That is how many are on page 1 and page 2. Page 3 has the inside liner covering it advertising all of the other thumb buster albums in the series. There is no picture of page 3 in the listing, and it doesn't look as though that paper was ever lifted. Its as dead flat as if it's been squished that way for decades. Once you open that page to expose page 3 ... especially "wide open" for taking pictures, you'll never get it to lay that flat again. I'm betting that they never flipped the protective sheet off of the coins on page 3, and didn't even reallize they were there....if indeed they are. Those are the easy ones to get. I can't imagine for one second, a set of mercs with nothing later than 1936 in it....no page 3 coins. The picture below is as close as they came to showing the 3rd page. Its still under wraps. That's one bonus ... Sometimes I cruise supplies and publications because I have found folks listing albums there ... that still have coins in them. I bought a pretty near complete set of silver Roosevelt dimes, for 15 dollars including shipping. All the listing description said was "flea market find". All of the San Francisco issues are there, from 46 to 55. There are indeed 45 silver dimes, but 3 of them are 50s or early 60s Canadian ones. Looking at the crappy picture ... at first I thought I saw a Seated Liberty dime stuck in the bottom row, but it's "Bluenose" the schooner that's on the reverse of the Canadian dime. Had me all wound up for a second. I don't much care for coins featuring dead politicians, but at 33 cents per coin, I'll find 'em a new home. Same seller had a partial set of mercs ... also listed in albums and supplies, and I ended up with 72 cents per coin in the 49 coins that are present. More stuff I don't need, but maybe I can whack together a starter collection for someone. This is just too much fun. Chance

Good work, Chancellor Sutler. You are enjoying the journey as much as the destination.

Well ... Its a little bit of a trail to follow, but the 21-P cost me nothing at this point. I've recovered the investment of the last 3 sets by selling 1 set I made up, the 2 25-P FBs from England, and the 21-P that the AU replaced. I'm in the black, even after buying the 2 junk silver sets.
Who knows ... maybe I'll stumble onto one (a 16-D in AU) some day by some unlikely means. I've already had 3 heart attacks ... so "that" would probably do me in.

I just returned from the Post Office with the "28 pc" set with the AU 1928-D in it. As I had imagined.... I flipped the protective page and looked at page 3, and this is what I saw Chance
