2000 P Quarter - Marking By Nose - Any Idea What Caused This?

I know this is an old and battered quarter, but I noticed an error of some sort in front of Washington's nose? It look like the letter E to me, but I could be wrong. I looked on the opposite side but didn't see anything that matched. Also, does it look like some stuff is double stamped? I appreciate the education!

Given the images posted, I'm thinking post-strike damage. Some Machine Doubling may be in-play as well. What does the reverse look like?

When damage happens to a coin, It is just a face value coin. Reverse is just showing some Grease Fill on some of the devices. (Also too minor for a premium) Just a spender coin.
