The Wizard albums are a good choice for those on a budget. http://www.wizardcoinsupply.com/Coi...ctor-Albums/In case you missed it, here is Earle42's write-up linked on the previous page... https://goccf.com/t/108818The money spent on albums is definitely for a long term investment, one for the sake of your collection. The hefty price (compared to folders) will pay for itself over time.

 - ditch the folders before they ditch your coins. I would never put anything with original luster in a folder again.

Been there done that with the folders. Can't see the reverse side of the coin, obverse is unprotected, coins sometimes fall out of the folder, they look and feel flimsy and cheap.

Quote: The money spent on albums is definitely for a long term investment, one for the sake of your collection. The hefty price (compared to folders) will pay for itself over time. It seems expensive, but if you price out the value of the whole set when you are done, in almost all cases the cost of the album is a tiny percentage. Even something common like a Kennedy half set is several hundred dollars to finish in decent grade. The difference between a $5 folder or $25 album gets lost in the cost of the coins.

Wizard album prices... Merc Dimes and SBA are 19.99 ea. Indian Head cents and Lincoln Cents are 15.00 ea. Buffalo nickels 10.00 The following are all 5.00 each: Jefferson, Roosevelt, Washington quarters, State Q's (3 different types of albums), Walking Liberty, Franklin, JFK, Morgan 1, Morgan 2, Peace, Ikes, Sacs, ASE So the cost is negligible on completion of a full set of most of these. I still think CCF should somehow get together and make our own 7070 replacement

Many years ago, I used Whitman folders. When I switched to albums, the coins included in Dansco albums fit better with my collection ideas & goals.

I never met anyone who regretted the decision to move from folders to albums. Never.

I use Intercept Shield albums for the "usual" series, but use Dansco for the not-as-usual stuff. For example, Dansco for two- and nickel three-cent pieces; Dansco for Shield nickels, Dansco for a make-my-own for a series not carried, by, well, anybody. Dansco has good selections for make-your-own albums. But I like the Intercept Shield look--more "modern." But Dansco is reliable and more, uh, versatile.

I just joined Coin Community [and am so glad I found y'all!] with questions like this on my mind. I'd been cautiously using folders for my brilliant uncirculated coins because I didn't know any better. They're not aging as well as I would like. I'm on the verge of transitioning to Dansco, but am now hearing about the Intercept Shield brand.
More than cost of the albums, my concern is what is best for the health of the coins. Is the Intercet brand established enough to have sound science behind its claims? How many use them and how are they for viewing the coins?

I have been using Dansco albums for just over 30 years and have zero complaints. The key to album success is that you store them in a location with low humidity and a stable (if not low) temperature.
I have never used Intercept Shield albums. The only thing I can say is that they probably have more in common with Dansco than any other brand.

For storing, store with a desiccant. I also found if you can find a furniture store who is willing, they get large dessicent packs in with the furniture they assemble in the back room. My son worked for such a store. It took 3 months and he gave me an entire Wal-mart bag filled to the brim. Otherwise it just ends up in landfills - a big waste.

I too use those desiccant packs found in shoe boxes, electronics boxes, furniture packaging, etc. I drop them into a wire basket in my safe when I get them. Seems to work well.
I use both Dansco and Whitman Classic albums. I actually prefer the color of the blue Whitmans and the font on the cover but I think the quality is slightly better with the Danscos. You won't be sorry with either one.
One other advantage of Danscos over Whitmans is that Dansco sells slip cases for the various sizes (widths) of their albums, where I believe Whitman does not.
Also, all Whitman albums are the same size regardless of how many pages.

Quote: Also, all Whitman albums are the same size regardless of how many pages. Not really. For example many are a lot thinner than others. Yes they are all the same height and depth, but many are wide enough to add many pages and some are not. I use this as a place to put duplicate coins in a series. For example I put two sets of Mercury dimes per Album. Same with several others. Don't forget that Whitman is owned by Harris and they also make Albums with the Harris name. Also, they make some that say USMint. You also may want to check out other places for purchasing such as Coin Supply Express and possibly other coin supply companies.

Yeah, you're right. I wrote that without being in front of my collection, mea culpa. I just checked mine and of the dozen or so I have, all but two are the same width. The 1973 ( Jefferson nickels 2004-) and 9149 (Anthony Dollars) are narrower than the rest.

I honestly prefer Whitman look and design, but Dansco offers some unique options that send me back there more often. Like Date sets, different albums for a series that include proofs or no proofs. Dansco also seems to fit more coins in their albums, which may mean less albums overall.
