Even though a lot of people do not collect Roosevelt dimes.I love them.Started collecting them years back and I bought a lot of cello enclosed 1965 dimes.Looked through them and sent best to ANACS. I now have the top two pop on 1965 dimes of SMS and business strike. I have two 1965 SMS FSB MS69 and two 1965 MS68 FSB dimes. They are both unbelievable beautiful dimes.I was just lucky to get them back them. I like buying mint sets and going through them for tough to find high MS coins. Good luck in your searching. Also found a 1984 P dime which graded MS 68 FSB.

Impressive work, SaturnD51! I really love my Roosevelt dime Dansco album. It may be the lightest album I have, but had a lot to look at in one place.

So I just learned in the grading forum that I have been too strict with my fb designations. I have been only attributing fb if I find them in full torch as well. Seems PCGS only requires the bands for fb. NGC uses ft which requires both fb and ft. Not sure if NGC gives Roosevelt's fb designations tho. Now I have to go back through all my Roosevelt's that I passed on and relabel my 2x2's. And pick up some nice silver ones from my LCS that I passed on because they were not living up to the ft I was looking for which may be impossible to find in some dates and mints. Don't get me started on proof like and deep proof like

I think that PCGS uses FB over FT because the bands are higher than the torch and there will wear down first before the torch bundle will. So in a sense, you cannot have FT without having FB too.

That's what I thought too! The thing is tho, hits break the vertical lines. These hits will prevent a ft from NGC (although they may allow a small amount of minor ones ). Looking at an MS67 in the grading forum these marks did not prevent a fb from PCGS.

Good point on the hits and dings on the torch, hadn't thought of that.

I have been building my FT collection for about 15yrs. It's fun, a challenge and most not to expensive. The 1970's dimes have been the harder group for me to find in ms66/ms67 FT. If you have time and wish to take a look, this is my NGC registry set... https://www.NGCcoin.com/registry/co...sets/253477/

Cladding! Awesome collection! Just wanted to let you know I have always valued your posts over the years! Started my modern collection 15 years ago (but only been active for half that). This past year I have been opening my mints sets purchased back then, grading, and cataloging them. Wow! They suck! I'm definitely late getting back into upgrading my moderns.
There is no doubt that moderns are getting scarce and prices are rising. I go to my LCS weekly for sets and they sell out often before I get there. Sets are still cheap but the quality coins are getting impossible to find without large premiums.
I have almost a complete post war business strike collection in MS but getting those uncirculated and low choice grade coins upgraded to high choice+ is a fun challenge! Given your expertise I bet you have stock of a lot of what I'm looking for in mid-high choice moderns. If you sell send me your info so I can start window shopping! When I start my new job this summer and can increase my coin budget maybe I can start sending you some wish lists! Thank you for being an inspiration!

When I start my new job this summer and can increase my coin budget maybe I can start sending you some wish lists! Thank you for being an inspiration! Thanks. I wonder where mint set prices would be today if the sets were still untarnished. Right now the prices are soaring but most of the sets have to be dismantled and the coins cleaned. While cleaning isn't very hard it's still a lot of work for inexpensive coins and especially inexpensive coins where most of them are badly made and banged up before going into the packaging. I find the situation all pretty surprising and never envisioned that the mint sets would turn bad just when the last of the coins in circulation are disappearing. I didn't expect the older coins in circulation to go so suddenly. The last dozen years has been hard on them and the next dozen is likely to be far worse. The wholesale price on Ikes has ratcheted up again. Nice chBU's are now being purchased for $4 each! Buyers don't want tarnish or spots and they'll also reject those with lots of bagmarks or ugly for any reason. As issued more than 95% of '78-D Ikes in mint sets were nice chBU's but only 60% of the Philly Ikes in '75 sets (type I's). Now it's closer to 90% and 45% and almost all will need a bath to make the grade. Then figure about 20% of those that come out of the bath will have spots and other problems since sometimes the tarnish is permanent. It's a shame collectors have ignored these coins so long and allowed this to happen. I should have been more pro-active when the tarnish first started showing up but, I guess I was in denial. There simply aren't enough coins any longer to support a mass market. Look how tiny the Ike market is but the prices are still soaring. Imagine if people wanted Gems or at least gemmy coins and even chBU's were in short supply. Many moderns like gemmy 1976 t I Ikes or FT Roosevelts are just so elusive that they will necessarily be niche markets. Meanwhile the last of the mint sets are continuing to be lost, dismantled, corroded, and snapped up. Even the later dates are now beginning to corrode. I don't know where collectors in the future will acquire these coins because for 67 years everyone who wanted moderns just got them out of mint sets. There's no wholesale market at all in chBU 1977 quarter rolls and no wholesale market for even single FT dimes!!!

Three weeks ago I sent some more ft Roosevelt's to PCGS and hoping to have some of their top pops. Maybe I will see some high grades but I have been let down in the past so I am still hoping.
